The stockyards tour with Big Tom exceeded my expectations! His deep knowledge of the region’s history combined with his excellent storytelling skills and sense of humor made for a fun and truly interesting 2.5 hours. We visited four saloons and heard entertaining stories about each that painted a vivid picture of life in the stockyard’s early days. Tom also skillfully wove the anecdotes into explanations of the trends and events that created the Texas cattle industry and the cowboy, and the region’s place in North American history. Along the way, we tasted some delish local beers (listen to Tom’s recommendations) and had a lot of laughs with the others on the tour. We learned a ton and had fun doing it. I highly recommend this tour with Big Tom!
