After its closure in 1873, the Anglican Christ Church Cathedral was built on the site, with its altar placed where the whipping post once stood. It serves as a memorial to the atrocities of slavery and a symbol of abolition .

This was a really enjoyable 3 hours around Stone Town. Our guide HB was perfect, really informative and thoughtful, he made the walk interesting, especially his knowledge of the slave market, educating us with great detail and a clear understanding of the horrific events. A guided tour is highly recommended especially if you could get H B as your guide. Mark and Sheelagh. Yorkshire. UK

This was an amazing tour At first I thought that we don’t need this tour but I’m so glad we decided to go for this. We went to the market and the tour was incredible . There was so many of different spices, all original and made in Tanzania. It very important that you walk around with someone who know the place and the language!!! He got us the best and fair places to buy from because sometimes the local can asked you for money because you are a tourist. Highly recommended.

If you want to see the real Stone Town, you must take a tour with HB. HB took us to all the alleys the locals go. That was a great experience that you must take if you want to see the real city as a local.

We met Ahmed outside Freddie Mercury Museum. He waited for us to grab a quick lunch and then gave us a fantastic tour of The Stone Town. History and histories mixed in an interesting, intelligent and kind way. We really want to recommend Ahmed!

We met Ahmed in Forodhani Park, in Stone Town the first day we arrived. We accepted to do the Stone Town tour and were not sorry. He is a really nice guy, well educated and well informed. The tour was well organized and informative, we got through all the important areas in Stone Town and we learned a lot about Zanzibar history. We also did a one day trip to a Spice Garden and to Jazani Forest with him and another day trip to Mnemba for dolphin swimming and snorkeling. From our experience he has some of the fairest prices and he is a good guide and a good company overall.
