What To Expect
Pico Do Areeiro
There is no better way of starting the day than to experience the unique sunrise in Madeira… very invigorating! An event of this nature, only Pico do Areeiro can provide at it’s best. We start climbing up to Areeiro, the 3rd highest peak of Madeira with 1818m of altitude. We climb via Camacha, a little village in the mountains famous by it's wickers pieces. After Camacha is Poiso, wich has a shelter house now turned in to a bar/restaurant, and marks the 1500m of altitude... and finally we arrive at Pico do Areeiro, the highest point in Madeira, and an unique place to watch the sunrise After the sunrise we go down in remote routs, in which we can appreciate Santo da Serra, a village surrounded by raw nature and breathatking views. The final descent to Santa Cruz, a city most known by the airport, and we will use very remote and narrow roads, that provides amazing postcards pictures.
Balcoes de Ribeiro Frio
The beautifull viewpoint is in the middle of the Laurisilva Forest, along a very flat hiking trail... at the end you will be amazed by the views!

5.00Fantastic experience. Hugo keeps the groups small and has the local knowledge to beat the queues and recommend the best spot for great photos. We captured some amazing shots without the crowds. The Balcones lavada walk was a lovely contrast in the forest ending in another spectacular view. And the final stop of a clifftop viewpoint did not disappoint. I highly recommend this tour.

5.00The view of the top was splendid but our hopes of viewing a spectular sunrise did not materialise as the weather didn't co-operate. It was windy with fast moving dark moist clouds allowing only brief glimpses of the colours of the dawn. We were fortunate to witness a couple being married when the clouds lifted a bit to allow views of the surrounding area. The remainder of the trip along the coast was through lovely scenery and bright sunshine which more that made up for the earlier disappointment. Our driver, Hugo, was excellent and his knowledge, commentary and concern for the group was excellent. The stops were perfectly planned to allow us glimpses of the natural beauty of Madeira and refresh ourselves to be ready for the next stop. We booked two further tours as we were so impressed by the experience.

5.00Such an amazing experience! Hugo made it so easy and seamless! He picked us up from our hotel and took us to a great spot to start our hike. When we got back, he took us on another little tour around the island and provided amazing suggestions for things to do around Madeira! We really appreciated his tour because we had booked another, which cancelled on us because of “bad weather,” which we found out was really because he overbooked so Hugo is reliable, trustworthy and extremely communicative, which I appreciate!

5.00An unforgettable experience! Watching the sunrise at Pico do Arieiro was absolutely magical, and our guide Hugo made it truly special. He’s a local with deep knowledge about Madeira’s nature, history, and culture, and he shared so many interesting facts and stories. After sunrise, he took us to two breathtaking viewpoints, making the morning feel like a complete adventure. Hugo was warm, friendly, and wonderful with my children, which made the tour even more enjoyable. This was without a doubt one of the highlights of our holiday – highly recommended!

5.00Apart from the very early start (5.15am), the tour/hike was very easy, not too steep! Itinerary as described, there is a coffee break after Balcoes de Ribeiro Frio. Don't forget to bring a warm jacket, it's very windy and cool up in the mountains!
Hugo’s Sunrise Tour: Nature, knowledge & pure passion!

5.00I booked the sunrise tour to Pico do Arieiro and was very lucky that it became a private tour because other guests had cancelled. Hugo picked me up on time at 5:40 a.m. in his 4x4 SUV – and from there an all-around magical morning began. Once at the top of Pico, I had plenty of time to watch the breathtaking sunrise and enjoy the so-called “Heaven Ladder” (step path towards Pico Ruivo) – a unique moment above the clouds! Afterwards we continued to PR11 – Levada dos Balcões, a short but beautiful hike through the laurel forest. The route is easily accessible and ends at a lookout point with “balcony views” of an impressive valley and green slopes. Many birds fly there – a quiet, magical place in the middle of nature. At the end, we continued along the winding roads to the glass-bottomed platform above the cliff – an impressive last stop with pure sea views. What makes this tour special: Hugo is an incredibly personable, attentive and knowledgeable guide. He shared a lot of exciting Insider tips, answered all the questions and I felt safe and in good hands all the time. A perfect mix of nature experience, knowledge, peace and quiet and good company! Thank you Hugo – I can recommend the tour with all my heart!
