Longyearbyen

Depart Longyearbyen at 4 PM Sail past striking Fuglefjella (Bird Mountain), a fine example of plateau mountainous landscape, as we leave Longyearbyen.

Sail to Smeerenburg, a former whaling settlement and source of an enduring myth, now home to a walrus colony.

Head north to reach Raudfjorden, with its red sandstone mountains in the east (from which the fjord gets its name), visiting the beautiful bay of Alicehamna and Hamiltonbukta.

Continue back south to explore Signehamna, a scenic bay with a lush green – and very lively – bird cliff. Take a Zodiac cruise of Lilliehook glacier, in search of calving ice.

Visit Kongsfjord, taking in the stunning Three Crowns mountains and landing to view the remains of the Ny-London mining settlement.

Keep travelling south to Bellsund, its green shoreline framed by high peaks, visiting Snatcherpynten, site of Giævervilla, one of the oldest extant houses in Svalbard.

Head back to Isfjorden to visit the most beautiful ‘home’ glacier for the locals – Nordenskioldbreen – before returning to Longyearbyen.
