Longshan Temple
Longshan Temple is located in the heart of west end Taipei, and serves as the religious center of local community. The temple was first established in the 18th century by Chinese immigrants coming to Taipei, who later built Monga District as their settlement for trade and business. In the following years, Longshan Temple went through a series of earthquakes, typhoons, as well as wartime air raids, but has always remained resilient thanks to renovations, enthusiastic believers and the gods’ blessing. Today, Longshan Temple is one of the most iconic buildings of historic Taipei and a popular destination for sightseeing among foreign visitors and worshipers.
Bopiliao Historic Block
Bopiliao, literally meaning “skin-peeling” was once the commercial center of northern Taipei where Chinese immigrants conducted trade with the indegineous community. During its most glorious years, you would find its street filled with hostels, shops and public bath houses to accomodate the traders and local residents. Here you will also find the best-preserved architecture from Qing dynasty China in Taipei, some of its features have even been incorporated into modern Taiwanese style!

This tour was such a great way to gain insight into Taipei’s history and culture. Our guides were Yuan and Luke, and they were both so educational and passionate about sharing stories and information with us. We asked so many questions - including our curious questions about politics, and they answered them very openly. The tour lasted 3 hours, there were plenty of breaks away from the sun and lots of interesting stories that were shared (things you wouldn’t know unless you knew a local Taiwanese person). Highly recommend!

We did this tour with Teresa and I-tan. Both were excellent. Well organized, good information, fun stories, well-paced, and with well thought out stops in places with AC as it was a hot day. The tour was about three hours so be ready to be on your feet for a while. Definitely recommended.

Amy and Jason were my guides, and they were both amazing. Amy and Jason were both happy to answer any question we had, and they were always energetic and helpful. I really enjoyed getting to learn about Taiwan’s history with them and gain a broader perspective on Taipei. I would highly recommend this tour!

Pei was my tour guide, she was exceptional! She arrived earlier than scheduled for my tour at the designated spot and made sure I was prepared with water and sunscreen before the tour. She was very friendly and answered all my questions. She gave me food and stop recommendations and after the tour was done, she walked with me to a local dumping restaurant and helped order for me since I do not speak mandarin. 5 stars! Thank you again Pei 🌟💛

Great walking tour, some of the old, mid and new. Perhaps break up the political talk and pick locations for shorter descriptions. Recommended.

Great tour! I would recommend this as a way to become acquainted with old Taipei. The Lungshan Temple part of the tour was the highlight for me. Knowing all the intricate details of how the Taiwanese Buddhist temples work, made this and the others we visited way more interesting. Mid way through the tour we stopped to talk political history. This was obviously very interesting in Taiwan! But if I was to make one small suggestion I would say find a more picturesque and shady spot for this part of the tour. I loved it, but our kids (10 and 13) struggled a bit for this part. We booked this tour through a booking site and as such paid a booking fee. But this is actually tip based! You can book it through their website for free and tip your guide at the end. As an extra tip, the tour finishes near the best dumpling place we went to for our whole trip. It is called Hang Zhou Xiao Long Bao. DONT MISS IT!
