Place du Grand 9 Avril 1947
The Grand Socco of Tangier is a lively square connecting the old medina with the modern city. Surrounded by colonial-era buildings, cafés, and shops, it’s a hub of daily activity where vendors sell fresh produce, spices, and handicrafts. Key landmarks include the Sidi Bou Abib Mosque and the Mendoubia Gardens. Historically, it played a crucial role in Morocco’s independence when Sultan Mohammed V gave a speech here in 1947. Today, it remains a vibrant cultural and social gathering place in the heart of Tangier
Tangier Casbah
The Kasbah of Tangier is a historic fortress overlooking the medina and the Strait of Gibraltar. Once a sultan’s residence and military stronghold, it now reflects the city’s rich heritage. Within its ancient walls, visitors can explore narrow alleys, whitewashed houses, and the Kasbah Museum, housed in the former Dar el Makhzen palace, showcasing Moroccan art and history. The Kasbah also offers stunning panoramic views of the city and sea, making it a must-visit destination for history lovers and travelers seeking Tangier’s authentic charm.

We had Mustafa as our guide through an extensive tour of the old city of Tanger, the casbah, the Medina, if I could give Mustafa 10 stars I would. His local knowledge and access to hidden gems, gave us more than my wife and I thought possible.

Mohammed was an outstanding guide for us – always helpful, well-organized, and with an impressive network of contacts. No matter what it was about: Mohammed always had a solution ready and was never too shy for any task. Our first day began with a city tour of Tangier. Mohammed arranged for us a German-speaking guide who was truly excellent. With a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm, he showed us the city and introduced us to the history, culture, and life in Tangier in a very interesting and entertaining way. On the second day, we visited the "Blue City" of Chefchaouen. There too, Mohammed had organized a German-speaking guide for us. The gentleman was already 84 years old and led us through the city with astonishing energy – from top to bottom and back again. He showed us all the sights and told many exciting stories. We were impressed and glad to have had him by our side. Some of us were sweating more along the way than our guide! The third day was all about action and fun. Mohammed organized a quad tour for us, which was a real highlight. We had a lot of fun, great views, and a good dose of adventure. We did not regret it for a second. Conclusion: Anyone looking for a reliable, dedicated, and friendly guide will find exactly what they need with Mohammed. He takes care of everything, has a solution for every situation, and approaches his work with passion. A true jack-of-all-trades, always in a good mood and willing to fulfill any request. We can wholeheartedly recommend Mohammed and would go on tour with him again at any time. Thank you very much, Mohammed – you made our stay something special!

We had a pleasant day touring Tangier with this guide. He was friendly, spoke excellent English, knew the city well, and showed us the major sights. He was also very helpful with taking photos and made sure we saw some great viewpoints around the city. Travelers should be aware that the tour included several shopping stops at rug, ceramic, jewelry, and cosmetic/oil shops that we were not expecting. The guide was courteous and did not pressure us when we declined to buy. If you book with him, I recommend discussing in advance whether you want shopping stops included and, if so, what kinds of shops interest you.

We had a really nice 3-hour walking tour with our guide Mohammed. From the beginning, he was punctual, welcoming, and easy to talk to. He took us through the Medina, the Kasbah, and some quieter streets that we probably wouldn’t have discovered on our own. What we liked most was that the tour didn’t feel rushed or too “touristic” — it felt natural and authentic. Mohammed shared a lot of interesting information about the history, culture, and daily life in Tangier, but in a simple and clear way, not overwhelming. He was always patient with our questions and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable. At one point, we stopped for a short break, which was very appreciated. It honestly felt more like walking around the city with a local friend than being on a typical tour. Overall, it was a great experience and a perfect way to get to know Tangier in a few hours. We definitely recommend Mohammed to anyone visiting the city.

We booked a free tour with Mohamed via Guruwalk. It was a really great experience. He was on time, extremely welcoming, and very knowledgeable. The whole thing lasted about 3 hours, and took us all through the Kasbah, the Medina, the Grand Socco, and the Petit Socco. At one point, my wife needed a restroom and he quickly found a local spot for her. I was even able to grab a quick cafe to walk with when we ducked in. The tour was booked in english, but a few folks who spoke spanish showed up as well. He was able to speak to everyone well, and answered everyone's questions thoroughly. We'd been in Tangier for a week and a half already, so we had a bunch of questions about local life and Mohamed was a wealth of knowledge. He explained culture, customs, history, and even helped us with some basic Dajira phrases. Guruwalk recommended a 15-50 euro tip per person, which we felt was very reasonable given the experience. Mohamed did a great job and he definitely deserves to be paid well for sharing this beautiful city with us.

We were greeted by Muhammad after stepping off the Viking tour bus. He offered us a private tour at a good rate and helped us to get amazing photos in Tangier Morocco. He brought us into markets and shops where we purchased beautiful Moroccan mirrors and pointed out film sites for famous movies. Mohammed was knowledgeable and friendly and made our day an exciting experience we’ll never forget. It was one of our best experiences on our Viking tour.
