Taos Plaza
Taos Plaza's history dates back to 1796 when the King of Spain granted land to 63 families, making it the area's main settlement after Taos Pueblo. The plaza was designed as a fortified village, with homes in large quadrangles and a central gate. It served as a refuge for livestock and a hub for trade fairs. While many buildings were lost to fire, those around the plaza today largely date from the 1930s. Now the heart of the Taos Historic District, the plaza hosts live music, farmers markets, and is a popular spot for shopping and galleries.
La Hacienda del los Martinez
La Hacienda de los Martinez, built in 1804, is a rare example of a northern New Mexico-style "Great House" from the Spanish Colonial period. Once a trade center, it features massive adobe walls and was home to Severino Martinez, his wife Maria, and their six children, including the notable Padre Antonio Martinez. Padre Antonio was a key social reformer, founding New Mexico's first coeducational school and introducing the first printing press to Taos. Today, the Hacienda offers a glimpse into 1800s frontier life with 21 rooms around two courtyards and traditional arts and crafts demonstrations.

I went on the Taos E-Bike Tour with Stephanie and it was simply AMAZING!!! Stephanie gave the group a tutorial on the bikes and made sure everyone felt comfortable. Then, we made so many wonderful stops on our trip around Taos — the Fechin House was a personal fave. The roads we took were beautiful. I felt like I saw so many backroads I had never experienced before. 10/10 would recommend!!! Must do in Taos!!!

This E Bike tour is very organized to share the history of Taos and information about well known artists who lived here in the past and present, museums and church locations. Along the bike route were lovely long bike routes on the outskirts of Taos to see the beauty of the foothills of the mountains. This bike tour is very leisurely as the E Bike technology allows you to decide how much leg effort you want to put forth. Our guide Katrina was excellent with safety awareness and tour guide through the many small stops. This E Bike tour is perfect for a couple, four friends or a larger family as they have 6 bikes overall. It starts and ends within the Taos downtown Plaza which gives you a location to continue your exploration of Taos when finished with the ride.

The Taos E-Bike Tour was such a highlight of my time here! Riding through winding roads, open desert, and tucked-away neighborhoods gave me a whole new perspective of this beautiful town. The e-bikes made the ride easy and fun—you can cover so much ground without feeling rushed or exhausted. Our guide was knowledgeable, personable, and full of local stories that brought the land and culture to life. It felt like the perfect balance of adventure and learning. We got to stop along the way for views, photos, and little gems I never would’ve found on my own. This tour is both family-friendly and exciting for solo travelers or couples. Whether you’re brand new to Taos or have been here many times, you’ll see the town in a whole new light. Highly recommend—it’s the perfect mix of history, beauty, and pure fun.

Last week I signed up for the Taos e-bike tour and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Our guide, Katrina, was phenomenal. Super professional, well informed of the local area, extremely personable, and very safety oriented. While I had never ridden an electric bike before, Katrina provided an excellent orientation and I adjusted without difficulty. The bike itself was of the highest quality and well suited for both on and off-road riding. I've visited Taos many times in the past and am quite familiar with area. Nevertheless, while this ride brought me to numerous familiar, must-see locations, I was also introduced to many out-of-the-way roads less travelled and equally interesting. Two thumbs up!

Stephanie our guide was patient and kind. She met the needs of riders with less experience while keeping the activity fun and informative.

10/10 would do this bike tour again. Our guide, Katrina, was AWESOME. She met us in the Plaza with our bikes ready to go. Our group of 5 adults did a couple of laps around the Plaza to get reacquainted w the E-bikes (which, are brand new and super easy to maneuver). We rode a 17 mile loop with several stops in town, a scenic ride on the outskirts and finally an ice cream stop before heading back to the Plaza. We did this tour late in our week long stay in Taos. Would have def loved to do it early in the week so we could go back to visit the tour’s points of interest. Katrina was great- she kept an eye on our group as we meandered down back roads and did a great job of informing us of local history, haunts and must do’s. We all felt safe on our bikes and appreciated Taos drivers giving us a wide birth on the roads. Great tour for active cyclists.. or leisurely minded cyclists. Just do it.
