Chinatown
Chinatown is an ethnic neighborhood that was once home to the early Chinese migrants. The area also displays remarkable religious diversity, where Hindu temples and mosques sit right next to Chinese temples. The rich heritage of Singapore is also evident in the wealth of food choices. If you are after an authentic Singaporean experience, you must eat like the locals at the Hawker Centers, a place where Singaporeans love and seek comfort in our local dishes. Picking a dish at the Hawker Centers can however be very difficult, because there are too many choices! The variety of local dishes is enough to keep one eating all the time! Every dish is a chance to indulge in something different. If you’re passionate about food, here’s where you should start your food journey in Singapore. Your local English speaking guide will bring you on a very "Shiok" and uniquely Singaporean food journey in Chinatown. You may also pick up one or two Singlish (abbreviation for Singapore English) words, a delightful slang consisting of English, Malay, Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese. Let's go "Makan" ! Our Tour : On this tour, we only have 10 spaces. Thanks to this small number, your guide will be able to answer all your questions. Belong to the happy few, discovering Singapore the tasty way! 8 to 10 Food Stops Little Things to Remember : This is a walking tour, so wear comfortable footwear. The weather in Singapore is hot and humid pretty much the whole year round, so casual and comfortable clothing like t-shirts, tangs, denim shorts are recommended. You may also want to pack a small and portable umbrella along as the weather can change unexpectedly.

I originally signed up for the Sweet and Savory food tour, however there weren’t enough people so I agreed to switch over to the Chinatown tour. I loved it!! Even though my hotel was literally 700m down the road I hadn’t ventured up to Chinatown. Even without all the hawkers it’s something to check out! Having a guide to take me through it all was fabulous. All the options in Singapore are overwhelming; literally food everywhere. This helped me to figure out what was good and where to go to get good food! This was my first food tour ever and I think I’ll have to make it a thing wherever I go. I believe my guides name was Olivia; she was absolutely amazing! I can’t say enough positive things about her. Oh and we got lots and lots of food. Seriously, lots. And I eat a lot. I think I went back to my room and laid down for a few hours after it finished. So don’t worry about getting enough.

We did the 4pm - 7pm tour in Chinatown and made 3-4 stops at various hawker centres and restaurants. Our guide Olivia was knowledgeable about food and Singapore/Chinese history more generally. It was very relaxing, not rushed and we got to try a good range of food. Definitely plenty of food on offer - we were stuffed by the end! I thought was very good value for how much food and drink we had. I live in Singapore so am very happy that I now know places to get some amazing food in future.

Adventurous food-wise, but cautious of food safety, I found this to be the perfect solution for my introductory experience. Our guide Keith is a real local and "foodie," and he introduced us to all the best Singapore food stalls have to offer. Come extremely hungry, because there is a LOT of food offered, and if you have a portable fan, bring it and wear cool, loose fitting clothers. The hawker markets are not air-conditioned, and it was hot and humid.

My tour guide, Eisler, was informative about food and Singapore. I very much enjoyed his company and insights into Singapore. My only regret is doing this tour on the night before I left. I wanted to go back to the markets we went to but didn't have the time!
