• Perfect Autumn Day at Temple of Heaven and ending at Summer Palace Sunset!

  We lucked out for two reasons today! Firstly, we had amazing weather mid-November after the recent temperature drop in Beijing and were afforded an incredibly sunny day for this tour. Second, and most important, was that we had Mr. Jason Lee guide our group through the packed itinerary! He is a polyglot (Chinese, Spanish, English, a bit of Italian) and was charming to see him interact with the members within our tour group in their native language as well as with the Beijing locals! We started at the Temple of Heaven and had a Peking Duck & Cantonese-Style lunch before heading to Lama Temple and ending at Summer Palace. To start, our group was given a general timeline of the day’s events with about 1-1.5 hours at each location factoring in walking time towards specific landmarks to get to the most iconic scenic points and time for pictures. In particular, I felt we could have shortened the time at the Lama Temple and instead spent more time at the beautiful Summer Palace, considering in fall the daylight hours are shorter! Lunch was delicious, with enough variety and at least 2 wraps of peking duck per person. Our table had some drumsticks left over since our group was so full. Lama temple, however had the most interesting facts related to Buddhism and the tibetan-style architecture, and relics from the giant wooden buddha, to the artwork adorning the walls in the different halls. Due to the incense, you will smell like ash! Summer palace was where I felt we could have spent more time admiring the scenic beauty rather than progressing through the courtyards, but Jason’s stories about the politics at the time of Empress Cixi were interesting and culturally significant. I would suggest during sunset, he would allow the group more time to embrace the sight across the horizon of the lake rather than guide us to the exit, since those fleeting moments of beauty are what many of us come to China to experience. He did take us to great panoramic locations, and for most locations having a few minutes for photos is enough. However the beauty of the sunset at that location is what could have been a showstopper moment to allow the group to really pause! Overall, a skill-full 8+ hour tour and logistics challenge navigated well by our guide! I highly recommend for the price and enjoyment. Break off from the group towards the end of the tour if you want to savor that sunset moment.

  Jason Lee was fantastic. It was a really great day. He was very informative and had lots of interesting facts that you wouldn't find out by yourself. Highly recommended.

  Gary was our tour guide for the day. He was very friendly to everyone and guided us all well. The tour requires alot of walking so good shoes are really recommended.

  Our tour guide was Yan and she was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. We visited the Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple and Summer Palace. But the highlight of the tour was lunch; it was excellent served family style. The group shared stories of different places that they had traveled.

  Review for Gary – Temple of Heaven / Lama Temple / Summer Palace Tour I had an amazing experience on this tour with Gary. From the very beginning, he was friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. He explained the history of the Temple of Heaven, the Lama Temple, and the Summer Palace in a way that was interesting and easy to understand. Gary also knew the best spots for photos and helped us avoid the crowds, which made the whole day much more comfortable. His English is excellent, and he answered all of our questions with patience and passion. The tour was well-organized, smooth, and truly enjoyable. Thanks to Gary, I learned a lot about Beijing’s culture and history. I highly recommend him to anyone visiting the city — he is one of the best guides I’ve met.
