The Deathly Dark Tour of York is a grim and theatrical, dark comedy walking tour, perfect for those who have a bit of a wicked streak and are looking to explore the dark and spooky history of the city with one of our guides, famous for their wonderfully dark sense of humour.
Please note, this is NOT a scare attraction, it is a storytelling experience.
The tour is family friendly, but some may find the stories frightening. Children must remain with their parent/guardian at all times.
Tour group size is 20-50 people, although this will change depending on the season. Private and small group tours are available on request.

Equal parts spine-chilling, hilarious and brilliantly informative, it manages to bring York’s grim history to life without ever taking itself too seriously. Our guide was outstanding, charismatic, knowledgeable, and perfectly paced, with just the right balance of genuine historical detail and dark humour. You’re not just told ghost stories; you’re immersed in the real (often gruesome) past of York, with tales of executions, plague, murder and mayhem delivered in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Even if you think you know York well, this tour reveals layers you’d never notice wandering the streets on your own. Atmospheric routes, clever storytelling, and moments that genuinely made us laugh out loud (and occasionally shiver). If you want a ghost tour that’s smart, entertaining, and memorable — not cheesy or gimmicky — this is the one. Would 100% do it again and recommend it to anyone visiting York. Brilliantly dark.
