1859 Ashton Villa
The extremely wealthy eccentric Betty Brown’s spirit is forever roaming the elegant halls of Ashton Villa. Many have seen Betty wearing a turquoise dress and carrying a fan during lavish event held at the mansion. Even death can’t keep Betty from being the life of the party…and scare the guests half to death.
One of over 200 historical markers on the island, this is the former residence of Olga Samaroff who is known to still haunt the home until this day.

5.00If you’re in Galveston and even remotely interested in ghosts, history, or spooky storytelling, do NOT skip the Historic Galveston Ghost Tour. Our tour guide, Lady Saelym, absolutely made the experience unforgettable. She had the perfect balance of creepy storytelling, genuine passion for Galveston history, humor, and education. Every stop felt immersive and intentional, not cheesy or rushed. She even let us borrow an EMF reader and mine was going absolutely wild for most of the tour, which made everything feel even more eerie and exciting. Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, it genuinely adds such a fun layer to the experience. And shoutout to her shadow Jeff too, who added to the atmosphere perfectly. The whole experience felt personal, engaging, and honestly kind of magical in the best spooky way. I learned so much about Galveston’s history, tragedies, spirits, and hidden stories while also being thoroughly entertained the entire time. You can tell Lady Saelym truly loves what she does, and that energy carries through the whole tour. Easily one of the highlights of our trip. I would 100% do it again.
