Chinese cemetery, the Khmer Rouge, lead by Pol Pot, turned the place into

what became known as the killing fields, where they executed around 20.000 victim. Over three years they massacred and

buried 2.5 million people. After remembering the dead, return to Phnom Penh to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). Meaning hill of the poisonous trees, Pol Pot turned a once popular

high school into a high security prison. 20,000 people were imprisoned

there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a

museum and a reminder of darker days.

Unfortunately, the tour guide we had didnt speak clear English. So when he was explaining the history, it was very hard to comprehend. At first I thought it was only me until others came up to me asking me for clarity but I couldn't help them because I didnt understand him myself. We laughed because we all didnt understand what he was saying. When we reached the second location at the jails museum, he gave a brief description outside each jail block and had us go inside ourselves while he sat outside on his phone. I was very disappointed because I really wanted to know the history of what I was seeing. He said it was because he is not allowed to talk inside the jails. Other tour guides were in there giving their customers history and explanations of the photos and what was being displayed in the museum. So I just walked with another tour guide and listened to him explain to his group so that I get that benefit that my tour guide did not give. That tour guide from another group explained so well I was able to explain to some of the people on my tour that didnt understand everything they were seeing. Its unfortunate because I booked an English speaking guide so I can fully learn of the Khmer Rouge history and I didnt get that from the guide in this tour. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this tour guide to anyone. Hopefully it can be fixed for future guest/customers.

A really fascinating tour with Bong. The pick up from the hotel was on time, the tour well laid out and it was a fascinating day. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour.

Learnt SO much on this trip about the history and culture of Cambodia. Very eye-opening experience and quite a unique tour where you get to meet the real life survivors of the genocide. Our tour guide Baboon was EXCEPTIONAL in explaining everything and spoke excellent english. Pick up and drop off was seamless and great.

Cheath, our tour guide, gave us a very good history of the genocide in Cambodia under Pol Pot. Its quite a harrowing history. He told a few jokes here and there:)

Incredibly informative sad tour! Baboon our guide was fabulous! It was also amazing to hear the story of the 12 survivors from the S21 prison directly from the survivor himself!
