killing fields of Choeung Ek Genocide Center – 9 miles away south of Phnom Penh. The infamous killing fields have a bloody history. Once an orchard and a
Chinese cemetery, the Khmer Rouge, lead by Pol Pot, turned the place into
what became known as the killing fields, where they executed around 20.000 victim. Over three years they massacred and
buried 2.5 million people. After remembering the dead, return to Phnom Penh to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). Meaning hill of the poisonous trees, Pol Pot turned a once popular
high school into a high security prison. 20,000 people were imprisoned
there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a
museum and a reminder of darker days.

5.00Many thanks to our tour guide Reaksa Sem for his tour, care and knowledge. Very nice man, spoke very well. Heavy experience but absolutely worth doing. 11 year old daughter & 15 year old son handled it surprisingly well!

5.00I was very precise and punctual for both the pickup and return to our hotel. The explanations were exhaustive and he responded courteously to all the questions of the various guests demonstrating a preparation that goes well beyond the general news he normally provides. He is prepared and also gave a great advice related to lunch: he recommended a restaurant also highly rated by Tripadvisor and that is also revealed to be cheap.

5.00Sum Cheath was a great tour guide and the tour is definitely worth it. It’s a hard story to hear, but one that needs hearing. Entry fees not included but are cheap (less than $10 total). Tour lasts about 4 hours

5.00Very sobering. But important to see what happened, to hopefully prevent it from happening again. Tour guide was great, his older brother was killed during this horrible time. He wept when he talked about it.

5.00Easy to book. Good communication. Prompt pick-up and drop-off. The subject is obviously emotive and the guide Sam Cheath handled this well. Prior to arrival at both the killing field and S21 prison he explained that some of what we would see could be upsetting and to be prepared for that. Vehicle was air conditioned and free water was provided - both welcome in the very humid heat. Recommended.
