Explore the magnificent lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. Located just 30-40 minutes from Reykjavík, the tunnel is easily accessible year round. Discover the inner workings of a volcanic eruption and walk along the path where lava flowed during the Leitahraun eruption, which occurred approximately 5200 years ago. Our tour is approximately one hour whereas platforms and lights have been incorporated - making the experience of visiting the cave simply breathtaking. The tour includes all necessary equipment. Choose your preferred departure time upon booking. Please note that this tour does not include pick up and is for self driving passengers only.

What To Expect
Explore the magnificent lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. Discover the inner workings of a volcanic eruption and walk along the path where lava flowed underground during the Leitahraun eruption over 5000 years ago. Our tour is approximately one hour whereas platforms and lights have been incorporated - making the experience of visiting the cave simply breathtaking. The tour difficulty is rated as easy, although guests need to walk over uneven surfaces and up and down stairs. Helmets and headlamps are provided and the guests go in a group with an English speaking guide who provides information about the unique geological features inside the Tunnel.

5.00Wonderful experience, one of the coolest things I have ever done. Jerrod was our guide and he was awesome. There are two tours, we did the hour one and then there’s one for extreme hikers. Loved being immersed in the darkness and listening to the cave.

4.00The lava tunnel was beautiful inside. Our guide Ben was awesome- informative and funny. Our group was rather large, which made the tour a bit slower. We did enjoy our experience overall and learned a lot.
Wish they had more pickups from Reykjavik. They havebonly two pickups and it is very expensive to take a taxi each way.

5.00Tour guide and he his knowledgeable narrative in the short 1hrs tour was very good. The lava tunnel with the lights, walking platform, spectacular details inside, the silence mode at the end and preview to the extreme tour were all worth it. 1hrs goes by as it was 15min.. If you are not claustrophobic extreme tour might be life long memory. Tour is worth every bit of time and $$ spend
