Greyfriars
We begin our tour in the city's historic Greyfriars Kirkyard where JK Rowling spent a lot of time while writing the books. Here we'll see several names on gravestones that inspired characters in the series including William McGonagall and Thomas Riddell. From here we will also see two potential inspirations for Hogwarts in the form of George Heriot's School and Edinburgh Castle.
An area of the city named after Harry Potter? Surely not! See the place where she wrote much of the first book from here.
Guide
Please bring something that you can use as a wand. This can be anything roughly wand shaped - a pen or umbrella will work well!

This was one of the highlights of the trip. The fact that this tour was free and one of the best tours we have done, says a lot. Ollie was our tour guide and they were the best- funny, informational, and made the tour super interactive. This is a must tour!

Alistair was an amazing tour guide. Lots of fun and laughter. He made is intresting the whole tour especially with the people who had no clue about anything Harry Potter. Would definitely recommend this tour to any of my friends or family who are Harry Potter fans. (Side note. He’s great at making character impressions from the movies)

This was a fun tour. The guide was very enthusiastic and engaging. I did expect a bit more to be covered that I didn't already know or couldn't have just gone to see on my own because the sites are common knowledge. Overall, a worthwhile tour though.

Christine our guide was amazing!! She kept the group engaged, had lots of energy and knew way more Harry Potter facts than I thought possible. 10/10 - 5 stars - incredible tour that I now need to book a return trip to bring my kids.

The tour was fun and our guide, Colin, did a great job. He shared a lot of interesting information about the Harry Potter world, and the house‑cup competition was a nice touch. The only downside was the pressure to pay at both the beginning and the end of the tour. This was surprising, because the website clearly described it as a free tour. I wouldn’t have minded contributing if that had been communicated upfront, but the way it was presented felt misleading. Because of that, I chose not to pay.

We took the Harry Potter tour with Caroline and my 7 year old who is an avid Harry Potter fan. We had a fantastic time, Caroline was fun and knowledgable; kind and engaged. The talk was fast paced and detailed, lots of space for questions within the group or privately with Caroline as we walked. We had a lovely tour, only made better by the glorious sunshine. Caroline made recommendations for other things to do in the city too, which we loved. Would definitely recommend.
