Farcu Cave (the Cave of Crystals)

The Crystal Cave in the Farcu Mine was discovered in 1987, following the advancement of the working front of the Farcu Mining Gallery. The cave is 251 m long and 16 m high. At the time of its discovery, the cave was considered a true gem, due to the richness of the speleothems, the diversity and shapes of the crystals existing here. Unfortunately, after the discovery, the cavity was damaged countless times by the breaking and destruction of the crystals. Recent explorations currently bring the Crystal Cave in the Farcu Mine back into the gallery of the most beautiful caves in Romania. The visitable route will cross 200 m of mining galleries, where you will also have the opportunity to visit a mining museum and 100 m of cave galleries with walls shaped by water and adorned with unique formations and crystals. The tourist route ends at a balcony from where you can admire the crystal reserve with the famous Farcu discs and the "crystal dragonflies".

Meziad Cave

Meziad Cave, one of the oldest and most famous tourist attractions in Romania, was first described by the famous Austrian geographer Adolf SCHMIDL (1863). Here were found the bones of the cave bear (Ursus spelaeus), which appeared 300,000 years ago and disappeared 12,000 years ago, at the end of the last glaciation. The cave fauna (bats, butterflies, spiders, crustaceans, beetles) sheltered here gives the cave its uniqueness. It is a cave with particularly beautiful formations - stalactites, stalagmites, columns, draperies.
