This hike is unique. We spent many days over the winter of 2024/25 in the Tirana Valleys researching the route.
Unlike most Tirana day trips, our hike takes place in Tirana County itself. There is no long transfer! It is just 24km from Mother Teresa Square to the hike start point (we'll allow 40 minutes).
You'll be walking through a beautiful area that has zero tourism activity, and is not visited even by Tirana folk. We're very confident that the only people we'll meet are local villagers and shepherds.
The scenery is simply incredible. You won't believe you are just a few kilometres from Tirana.
This hike is possible to make from early October through till the end of April. In the summer months the temperatures are just too hot for comfortable walking.

This is a unique hike in the Tirana Valleys that we developed over the winter of 2024/25. You will need a good level of fitness and be prepared for some steep climbs on poorly maintained paths. The only people walking these trails are local shepherds, and us! The hike starts from a village in the Baldushk region, to the southwest of Tirana - at about 210m altitude. Our target is the summit of Mali i Vrapit (647m). The path is pretty good for most of the way, but towards the peak we have to find our own way across uneven limestone. It should take us about 2h 30m to reach the top. After enjoying the views we'll descend - the first 100m are the trickiest part of the hike. From here the terrain gets easier, as we stroll to the village café, hopefully arriving around 13.30. Here we'll enjoy a beer and a simple lunch made from ingredients sourced in the village. At 15.00-15.30, Beni, the village's bus driver, will take us back down to the start point in his treasured 1980s Mercedes minibus. The distance is only about 7km but the road is extremely rough, so it will take about 40 minutes! The drive-time back to Tirana is difficult to estimate due to the city's crazy traffic!
Private transportation
We take lunch in the village café. Almost everything is produced in the village, from the cheeses to the olive oil.

This hike is a game-changer for anyone visiting Tirana. In just 40 minutes from the city, we transitioned from the city bustle to a completely untouched wilderness. The hike itself is breathtaking. We trekked through rugged valleys and over ridges that offer views so wild you’d never guess the capital was just 24km away. It’s a rewarding path that avoids the crowded tourist tracks entirely—the only people we encountered were local villagers. It felt like stepping into a side of Albania that remains perfectly preserved and peaceful. Genti is a phenomenal guide whose passion for the Tirana County landscape really brings the journey to life. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and makes the entire experience feel personal and authentic. To top it off, he arranged lunch in a local village that was hands-down the best food we had in Albania. Eating fresh, traditional dishes in a tiny village home was the perfect reward after the trek. If you want an escape that feels worlds away without the long drive, this is the trip to book.
