This is the ideal pick for time-tight travelers wanting to discover lots of Tokyo’s highlights in a day. Avoid the potential confusion of Tokyo’s subway system, and travel comfortably in a private vehicle instead.
Due to the enormous size of Tokyo, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, a one-day tour would probably focus on one small area, which would still leave you in awe at the scale of the city. Tokyo is where you can experience both modern and traditional, and your experienced private guide will help you efficiently enjoy a full day in this dynamic Japanese capital.

Asakusa
Asakusa is the center of Tokyo's shitamachi , one of Tokyo's districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives. Asakusa's main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.
Imperial Palace
**This tour does not include access to the inside of the Imperial Palace** The current Imperial Palace is located on the former site of Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls in the center of Tokyo, a short walk from Tokyo Station. It is the residence of Japan's Imperial Family. Edo Castle used to be the seat of the Tokugawa shogun who ruled Japan from 1603 until 1867. In 1868, the shogunate was overthrown, and the country's capital and imperial residence were moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. In 1888 construction of a new Imperial Palace was completed. The palace was once destroyed during World War Two, and rebuilt in the same style, afterwards.

Toshi was so fun! He took us to temples, gardens, busy traffic spots, local dining, shopping and gave us a lot of information on the Japanese culture. We were very impressed with his professionalism and his passion for his country.

We had an amazing day exploring Tokyo with Michio as our guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable, providing great historical background on each site and using his personal tablet to visually enhance our understanding. His English was excellent, and he clearly explained the cultural differences between temples and shrines, making the experience even more meaningful. Our driver, Nobuhiko, was equally impressive—always finding safe and convenient drop-off and pick-up points close to each attraction. Together, they made the day flow seamlessly. Michio thoughtfully adjusted our itinerary to avoid traffic and kindly delayed our lunch at our request to miss the noon rush. Every detail was handled with care and professionalism. Highly recommend Michio and Nobuhiko for anyone looking for a well-organized, informative, and enjoyable tour in Tokyo!

The guide was excellent at explaining modern Tokyo as well as the historical and religious roots that lead Japan there. He answered all the questions we had and fulfilled a few personnal requests like walking down on Shibuya Crossing and go see Hachi statue. The Driver was very skillful and timely to get us back in the car on our back from visiting a specific site.

A perfect compilation of Tokyo sights. Not cheap, but inexpensive, because you give everything important to see in a short time and have a personal guide and driver.

It was a unique experience to experience the most important sights with izumi, especially if you only have one day. It was also very beneficial to travel with a private taxi. The money is well invested.

The tour was fully customised and our fabulous guide Fumiko was in touch with us in advance of the tour to ensure the itinerary was planned in accordance with what we wanted to see. One day in Tokyo was not enough however we did see so very much and got a taste of this amazing city. Fumiko was extremely organised and kept us on schedule throughout the day despite the hot weather and crazy traffic. Our family of 5 consisted of 2 mature adults and 3 young adults aged 18, 25 and 28. It was great getting picked up from the port post our cruise and then dropped to the airport post the tour, knowing our luggage was secure in the minivan the entire day. Highly recommend this tour.

This tour was perfect for our family of 2 adults and young adults aged 18, 25 and 28. Our guide Fumiko was extremely organised and customised the tour to our preferred itinerary. It was a busy day however we really did get a great taste of Tokyo. It was perfect for us as we got picked up at the port at the end of our cruise and then dropped to the airport at the end of the tour. It was great knowing our luggage was secure in the minivan throughout the tour. Highly recommend this tour.

We cannot say enough good things about our full day tour of Tokyo from Yokohama. It was beyond our expectations, excellent in all aspects. Minoru, our guide from the Japan Guide Agency, and Nobuhiko (?), our driver from Yokohama Sun Taxi, were excellent. They met all our needs with courtesy and efficiency. Prior to the tour Minoru exchanged numerous emails with us. We told him what our interests were, and he proposed an itinerary. We were then able to comment on it, and he incorporated our suggested changes to ensure that we got the best possible tour for the day. For a fee we added two extra hours to our tour. It was well worth it. There is so much to see in Tokyo, and we wanted to be able to get the most out of the day. The tour went like clockwork, and we were able to cover the entire itinerary. Everything was efficient and well-coordinated by Minoru. We had no wasted time and were even able to include a leisurely lunch at a quaint Japanese restaurant. We had a very rainy day in Tokyo and were pleasantly surprised when our driver produced large umbrellas for each of us and after we toured each part of the city no matter where we ended that segment our driver seemed to just appear waiting for us. I cannot imagine it going any better and would highly recommend this tour. On a final note, we booked through Viator but had several dealings directly with the Japan Guide Agency, the agency that managed the tour. They were excellent and they promptly addressed all our questions and concerns via email.
