In the early morning, meet your local guide in a centrally located meeting spot. Strap on your helmet, jump on your bicycle, and begin your 6.5-hour tour of Tokyo. Starting among the tall skyscrapers of Shinjuku, ride at a relaxed pace through backstreets to see a small shrine in a residential area, a great example of Tokyo's contrasting modern and traditional atmospheres. Then, head over to Meiji-jingu, the city’s most famous Shinto religious site, through Yoyogi Park where cherry blossoms bloom in the spring. Take your time to walk around the peaceful gardens that surround the shrine with your guide. Pedal your way to Japan’s Roppongi Hills entertainment complex through the main street of Omotesando — one of the most sophisticated shopping areas in all of Japan — and then take a backstreet to the Aoyama cemetery, which looks and feels like Tokyo 100 years ago. Next, stop at a local supermarket to buy a bento box for lunch, just like local at your own expense. Then, visit Zōjō-ji temple where Tokyo Tower can be seen just behind. Enjoy lunch on the waterfront just beside the Rainbow Bridge with panoramic views of the Tokyo skyline including the Aqua City Odaiba complex. After lunch, bike through the main and back streets of Ginza. Check out this exclusive shopping district then cycle your way to the Imperial Palace, home to a traditional Japanese garden, tea pavilion, stone walls, and a moat. Ride through the two outer gates of the castle, then follow along some of the large moat. Head back to Shinjuku and to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Ascend 48 floors in a high-speed elevator and enjoy the 360-degree view of Tokyo, including the Tokyo Skytree, and even Mt. Fuji on a clear day. Its then just a 5-minute ride back to the original meeting point where your tour concludes.

If you’re looking for the ultimate way to explore Tokyo, look no further than Bicycle Tours Tokyo — and make sure you request Gaku as your guide. This tour was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan. Gaku’s passion for Tokyo was absolutely infectious. His depth of knowledge about the city’s rich history was remarkable — he brought centuries of culture and tradition to life at every turn, making each stop feel like a story unfolding before our eyes. What truly set this tour apart was the perfect balance between iconic landmarks and wonderfully off-the-beaten-path discoveries — hidden temples, quiet backstreets, and local shops we never would have found on our own. Safety was clearly Gaku’s top priority throughout. Navigating Tokyo’s busy streets on a bicycle could feel daunting, but his calm, professional guidance made every rider feel completely at ease. It was clear he takes his responsibility to his guests very seriously. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tokyo. Whether you’re a history buff, an adventurer, or simply someone who wants to truly feel a city rather than just see it, this is the experience for you. We will absolutely be back! Thank you Gaku!!

This is a fabulous way to see some of the better known areas and some of the more off the beaten track spots. Gaku our guide was a mind of information and so helpful. The bikes were light and good. It’s a long ride but fun so you don’t notice the distance

We loved the variety of small back streets, parks, shrines, and very busy thoroughfares. Gaku made us feel very safe and was a great host. We enjoyed buying lunch at a local store and eating it at the harbour as well as finishing with the amazing views of where we had been. We would definitely do this again.

Gaku is a wonderful bicycle guide and expertly navigated our family of 5 through the streets of Tokyo. Great way to start our trip in Japan and get a taste of this enormous city. Bikes were in good condition and we felt safe the entire journey. The stops were well planned and local lunch by the waterfront was a nice touch.

We took this tour on a Sunday after arriving in Tokyo the night before. It was a great way to cover quite a bit of ground, get some bearings and learn a bit about Japanese history and culture. Gaku was a great cycle guide, giving direction in plenty of time, taking us down little back streets, on cycle paths and busy roads. We felt really safe and had lots of fun. The bikes were comfy and easy to ride on this pretty flat route.

My partner and I had an outstanding experience, our guide Gaku has put a lot of thought into this tour, we experienced some of the best sites in Tokyo at the ideal pace. He truly showed us some of the most interesting and local sites you don’t typically see on these types of tours. And doing it by bicycle immersed us in the Tokyo culture. Well worth the money!

We had a really great day in Tokyo with Gaku. Because the other group of people did not show up, we as a family, (my husband, son of 13 and I) had a 'private tour.. Gaku has very well maintained City Bikes. Although we are tall (my husband 2.01 mtr) and used to cycling, we were able to hold out well this day. Gaku gives a lot of information and has answers to all your questions. Along the way we visited many interesting places, including places that are not in a travel guide, so are quiet, but definitely worth it. If you ask if we recommend this tour, we all say, resoundingly YES!!

Tokyo bike tour with Gaku was an absolutely amazing experience! Gaku was the perfect host and he explained everything we needed to know before we set out. There were adequate breaks and even time for a lovely water-view lunch eating food we purchased at a grocery store. I would recommend doing this your second day in Tokyo so you can get a lay of the land. We covered so much territory and it was so fun. Highly recommended!!!
