We ended up on a private tour (just the 2 we booked for) with our guide Cameo. Cameo was a great guide. My only issue with this tour was that it felt like we were being led from stall to stall to be pushed to purchase things (tea, specialty beans, wasabi sesame seeds, etc.). When I do a food tour, I prefer to have the time focused on sampling foods. The market area is small enough that I think you could go on your own and have a good time. Most of the vendors have food out for purchase so it would be easy enough to organize your own sampling of foods. The coolest thing was at the end we all met up in a restaurant and the chef demonstrated how he scales and cuts a fish for sushi. Wish it would have been something we could all learn to do! Overall enjoyed this tour, and did purchase some goods to take home, but in future would do on my own. Also, no drinks were included.

Great way to explore such a busy place with a knowledgeable guide. Haruko knew where to go, what to try and even got a fish cutting demo.

We had a great tour with Sachi as our guide. We learned a lot and she pointed out great things to try!

Only had 2 other people in our group. They were cool and I loved our tour guide but I was kinda expecting to see more of the ins and outs of how fish are prepared and how restauranteurs come and bid on the fish. This was basically just another food tour and even the food we tried was average.

The tour was fine, but nothing special. I think it might have been the most underwhelming tour/activity we did in Tokyo. The food was mediocre and somewhat disappointing even. Especially the yakitori stick, it was literally heated up in the microwave and still cold in the middle. The other foods we had were also all sample sizes (e.g. two strawberries). If you’re a big eater, this probably won’t fill you up. The guide however was very kind and I cannot fault her of anything. The highlight of the tour was being able to look in the kitchen of a tamagoya restaurant and the fish filleting experience with the sashimi bowl. Walking through the surroundings was quite nice as well, but nothing you can’t do yourself. I would probably skip Tsukiji all together, but if you do go, this tour might be a decent way to see it.
