Muralla de Toledo
Toledo has had a wall from the Romans, which had to be rebuilt by the Visigoth King Wamba in 674. The current wall is of Arab origin where we can find some Roman remains. King Alfonso VI, is granted the completion of the works of the wall in 1085, after reconquering the city. Toledo has always had a great wall, well known throughout its history, taking center stage its entrance and exit doors, such as the Puerta de Bisagra, the Puerta de Alfonso VI or the Puerta del Cambrón.
Plaza De Zocodover
The Plaza de Zocodover is a square of the city of Toledo. It was the nerve center of the city during most of its history, acting as its main square. A part of it was designed by Juan de Herrera in times of the reign of Felipe II

The tour was fun, the guide was knowledgeable but I felt very rushed in the cathedral. We had a VERY large group of older, slower people and it took awhile to get around. Many times the guide was in one room talking and we were still trying to get there so we missed alot of information. The sound system was once again poor. He would cut out or if you got too far away (which happened alot because of the size of the group) you couldn't hear.

Great day trip to Toledo. Cathedral was amazing! Loved that the tour wasn’t rushed and able to enjoy at a more leisurely pace.

We had a great trip, our itinerary was changed, for the better if truth be known, to include a guitar of the cathedral, well worth it. Our guide, Arantxa, was brilliant, knowledgeable, funny, infectious personality, Kept the group in order, several senior members, myself included, with tendency to wander. Well worth the trip

The speaker system on the bus was broken, and the audio guides distributed to us didn’t work correctly (static problems) . In addition, the bi-lingual guide was difficult to understand . During this tour, the first 30 minutes after arrival in Toledo are spent at a “sword making “ shop, which is a stupid, over-priced gift shop/ tourist trap. Annoyingly, they schedule this at the tour beginning so you have no choice but to go there. Our group was so irritated at that point, we left the tour and went off on our own to walk through Toledo. Do yourself a favor and skip this tour!

I signed up for a half day tour that was supposed to return at 3pm but when I arrived I was told that the bus was returning at 5pm, there was no “half” day…if I chose not to see the Cathedral than I would have to spend free time on my own. So I gave the guide an extra 20 euro. The Cathedral should absolutely be included as it is the main highlight. The tour was in both Spanish and English, alternating every few sentences, and I found it extremely difficult to follow along and stay engaged. I respect that we are in Spain and that many of the guests were Spanish speaking, but I think the tour would be much more enjoyable and have a better flow if the English tour was separate from the Spanish tour. Our guide was lovely but the amount of information and history was overwhelming and dry. I have done tours this week of several sites and generally enjoy them, but this one wasn’t my favourite and it was very expensive. I don’t recommend visiting Toledo in the morning. It feels like a tourist trap with hundreds of tourists from different organizations crowding the narrow streets. The architecture, church, and synagogue are beautiful, but the shops are terrible- not authentic and full of junky souvenirs . In the afternoon it seemed that many of the tour groups had left and my free time was enjoyable. I went to the El Greco museum- it’s stunning, I highly recommend it and it’s not part of the tour. I don’t regret going, as I definitely learned some history and got a tour of the sites outside the city on our way back. However I think I would have preferred to go on my own with the train in the afternoon, and maybe chosen a different, more condensed tour in Toledo.

A trip to Toledo is 100% worth it! A beautiful city, with so much to look at. Our guide Beatrice was excellent, giving history and insights that made a real difference and engaging really well with everyone in both Spanish and English. Visiting the synagogue, church where el Greco's major picture resides and especially the cathedral were definitely worth paying for, but if choosing one it would have to be the cathedral and its sacristy where there are around 20 el Greco paintings and its amazing painted ceiling. The city is compact, although some streets are steep. Views from it are amazing, while at the end of the tour the bus goes round the outside of the city to get views back at it which are equally great. Overall an excellent day trip with a brilliant guide and super driver Paulo.
