Fantastic trip & experience, the monastery is beautiful & serene. Audio guide app on phone worked very well (remember to take some headphones & also download the guide before you go just in case you have no signal). Also a particular mention for our driver Juan Carlos who was super friendly and informative … cheers Juan. Also hello to the Canadian couple we shared the car journey with, who made the time fly (enjoy your trip & Geddy Lee’s “My Effin Life” x)

  • Guided tours are required. I would recommend as a place to visit

I would certainly recommend this as a place to visit if you're in this part of Spain. We took a train out of Barcelona to Tarragona. Then we got the bus from the bus station (a 10 minute walk from the train station) toward Lleida; and got off at Poblet and walked to the monastery. Because it is a working monastery, guided tours are required, and are offered frequently.

Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet, Spain. A beautiful valley under the buttresses of the Prades mountains and the vast Poblet forest, the ancient populetum (poplar grove) that gives its name to the complex: this magical setting hosts the monastery of Poblet (480 m), the most important of the Cistercian triad that includes Santes Creus and Vallbonne, and one of the largest monastic complexes in Europe., both artistically and for its position in the history of culture as recognized by UNESCO which has defined it as a World Heritage Site. It was Ramòn Bereguer IV in 1153 i entrusted to the Cistercian monks of Fontfroide. Anyway the complex is gorgeous especially inside and I really liked this place. Admission is charged.
