2.00One week tour of Italy starting in Rome travelling by coach visiting Pisa for the afternoon before stopping two nights in Florence. On the road again to Venice visiting Verona before staying two nights 15km from Venice. Choice of three hotels poor, lacked basic facilities and too far out from main areas. Had to eat across road from one hotel at burger van as no restaurant, no bar, nowhere to get a drink, no kettle in room or seat on toilet. Choice of restaurants on extra trips (extra payment) not great and food poor with fixed menu and no choice.

3.00Average, mixed experience. Started good - interesting history re Venice, some fun anecdotes, really good overview of the history of the Jewish ghetto, etc. After that it was basically a long treatise on all the negative aspects of Venice's administration andpolicies, with a focus on how bad tourism is. As tourists it's good to have some perspective on this. It may have been helpful to understand how we can be better guests in this wonderful city. But at some stage the negativity stopped being interesting or helpful. I would recommend the guide plan a more balanced presentation that doesn't sound like a long list of everything he is disappointed with.

5.00We absolutely loved this tour. It was such a refreshing change from the busy main sights and gave us a completely different perspective on Venice. Georgia, our guide took us through quiet backstreets, hidden squares, and local neighbourhoods we would never have found on our own, sharing fascinating stories about everyday Venetian life as well as the city’s history. It felt authentic rather than “touristy,” and the pace was perfect. By the end of the walk we felt like we understood the real Venice so much better. I’d recommend doing this early in your trip if you can, as it really helps you see the city differently for the rest of your stay.
