An hour drive will bring us to Khor Virap Monastery located in the Ararat plain situated about 100 meters away from the closed Turkish-Armenian border (sealed by barbed wire fencing) and defended by Russian military establishments.
Heading to south east of Armenia our 1st stop is the legendary Monastery of the Spear at Geghard Monastery. This UNESCO World Heritage site was carved into the rock to house one of the most cherished relics of Christianity.
We continue our drive to Garni village and stop in a family restaurant to have our lunch there and try lavash(flatbread made in a tandoor).
We visit Garni Temple, a first century A. D. Graeco-Roman pagan temple probably devoted to Mithra. We may hear Armenian visitors give an impromptu choral concert.

Khor Virap
The monastery is surrounded by green pasture lands and vineyards within the Ararat plain and is in view of Mount Ararat. The Arax (or Arakas) River flows close by, and the monastery is across from Aralık, Turkey.
Charent's Arch
Enjoy amazing view of mountains from Charents Arch. At one of the passes right by the road there is the Arch of Charents (architect R. Israelian, 1957), from which opens a breathtaking view of the Ararat valley.

I've enjoyed the tour very much because the places visited were amazing and also because of Tigran, the tour guide, who explained many details and the history related to each of them which made the whole tour very interesting.

We hat a daily tour with our guide Tigran to Khor Virap, Geghard and Garni Temple and it was very informative, fascinating with the architecture and beautiful landscapes and a lot of fun. Tigran is a very knowledgable guy, who can give a lot of additional facts and he presents it in a still humorous way, we liked that very much. Also the lovely details, like seeing a lavash bread making by an armenian woman for us, was so wonderful. I hope to come back to Armenia as soon as possible. For all people, who are interested in culture and people, this will be a great option. I can recommend it highly!
