It is a true architectural masterpiece of the early Medieval period overlooking the confluence of Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers from the top of the hill.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral was built in the 11th century, although the site itself is even older, dating back to the early 4th century. The monument has an elongated cross which appears to touch the sky. The cathedral is the second largest church building in Georgia and is listed as a UNESCO.

I really enjoyed this tour to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. It was a beautiful and peaceful trip, and the place feels very special with its rich history and amazing views. The churches and historic sites were impressive, especially Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. The tour was well organized, comfortable, and not too tiring. Our tour guide, Nino, was wonderful — very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Georgian history and culture. She made the experience even more interesting and enjoyable. It was a great chance to learn more about Georgia while enjoying a calm atmosphere outside Tbilisi. I especially liked the panoramic views and the unique spiritual feeling of the city. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Georgia. It is perfect for people who want to see an important historical place without going too far from Tbilisi.
