Che'il Mayan Products

The Chocolate Making Sessions at a living Mayan Museum offers you the BEST of Real Mayan Culture and its authenticity. Experience the traditional Mayan way of making chocolate from bean to bar. Cacao Beans are grown by local farmers in Maya Center Village and is certified Organic. Take a short walk to the cacao farm to learn about how cacao trees are cultivated.. The trained farmer will give you a detailed explanation and process of how the beans are extracted from the pods and then fermented and finally dried and ready to be processed into chocolate. You will roast your own cacao beans on the clay griddle, just like how the Mayans did. Making chocolate on the Mayan grinding stone is a lot of fun! The cacao beans being ground on the grinding stone gets magical as you witness your chocolate beginning to unfold. What is more exciting is that you get to eat your own chocolate! The tour is very educational and hands on. You have got to do it.

Booked this tour via Julian tours. They picked us up at the hotel and we first visited the farm where the farmer introduced us to the cocoa trees and gave us a very education talk on the growing and health benefits of chocolate. From there we visited the factory where we were taught how chocolate is made in the very same place as Prince William and Kate. We then made and tasted some chocolate ourselves. Overall an excellent and enjoyable tour.

This tour is so much fun learning about something new and being hands on we're my favorite things that won't be easy to forget. The guides were so open to sharing the chocolate making process, from the farm to mouth. Gotta check it out. It's gonna be hot so bring a portable fan with you to help stay cool. Very minimal walking and driver has a cooler with water bottles which really help kept me cool.

  • Well worth your time!

We added this tour at the last minute and were so glad we did. They took us through the entire process, from growing cacao to grinding the beans into chocolate. Afterwards, our guide Dirk gave us plenty of time in the Mayan Women's shop. He even went out of his way to find the coconut water we wanted. I can't speak highly enough about Get to Know Belize Adventures.
