A very scenic tour by train. The train was clean and the staff was friend. . This is the best way to see the mountainous South Island.

This really did live up to the description as one of the world’s greatest train journeys! Really comfortable, spacious seating, wonderful views and I loved the windowless viewing carriage. I was lucky to be right next to it, so could easily go back and forth. We were able to get out for photos at Arthur’s Pass which was great. The staff on hand offered to take my photo with the sign which was nice (travelling solo). The only thing I’d say is that the carriage as a little warm and had no opening windows.

The views. Friendly, helpful staff both train and cafe both directions. Nothing bad to say. Well worth the money and time.

Train delay meant going through the Alps in the darkness. Unfortunate. I know fixing things is crucial. The train folks did their best. Would have been nice to know about this possibility beforehand.

Lovely train ride across the South Island. Pass over gorges and rivers, and through tunnels. Wonderful views of New Zealand's beautiful scenery.
