Come with us for our Express Aurora Hunt and have a guaranteed early return to Tromsø city centre. Leave the city lights behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this activity, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts and uses local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights within an hour's drive from town. On this activity, we will travel wherever looks safest and with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights within 1 hr of Tromsø city centre. Once we arrive at the best location, we will be waiting for the show to begin. In the meantime, our guides will tell you stories about the North and the science behind the Aurora. We'll have you back to the city centre by midnight, so you can be well rested the next morning.

Participants must be over 4 years old - we can accept younger children, however parents must bring car seat, thermal clothing and meal, and office must be informed

A great way to hunt for the lights with children

5.00I decided to go for the express tour as my daughter is 12 and didn't want her to be up all night. This tour was perfect, being only 4 hours with a pickup of 8pm. Even in the Polar Night though, when with children, a longer tour will test their patience! We were picked up on time and with this tour, it's a much smaller group. Evgeni was our tour guide and he was brilliant. Really polite and knowledgeable. He'd even brought some treats as it was Halloween 🎃. With Tromsø, the weather can change so quickly so a tour like this is the best way to help improve your chances. Evgeni was able to check in with other lights tours and weather stations to get us to the best spot and a spot that was secluded and crucially away from all the lights! Overall, what an experience, I can't recommend Wandering Owl enough.

5.00Evgeni was able to locate the lights only 30 min from Tromso, even though the forecast was not very good. We were able to see the lights dance in green and red it was truly an amazing experience. He was also so knowledgeable about the science behind them and the stories about their history. Cookies were also delicious!!!

5.00I finally saw the Northern Lights — after a failed attempt last year in Finland, Wandering Owl made it happen! Their guides are incredibly skilled: they follow weather updates in real time and take you where the sky is clearest, even when conditions look tough. The experience was warm, personal, and deeply respectful of nature. Highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for a sustainable and meaningful Aurora hunt.

5.00Amazing tour, we had zero hopes to be able to watch an Aurora because the day had been cloudy and snowing, but thanks to the costant sync of Isaac and Vitek with other colleagues and taking into account the forecast we were able to see an aurora. Amazing team!

5.00The BEST choice for aurora hunting. I’m so glad I had booked his in addition to my tour activities because the experience was top notch compared to other “aurora safaris.” Joan and Adam did a great job finding us a location which was dark and undisturbed by drivers passing by. We got the show of a lifetime and I am so thankful. Joan kept checking in to make sure we were warm. They also provided warm drinks and cookies. So thankful for the experience and highly recommend.
