I'm a professional truffle hunter from 3 generations in Alba. My grandfather after the 2nd world war was one of the first truffle hunters in Alba, he taught my father all the secrets about the precious "ipogean fungus" then my father taught it to me. I'm a dog trainer & actually I've got 3 great dogs: Isi, Palli & Lisa. I would like to teach "some' 'of my truffle hunting secrets to travelers. During the tour you will be helped by my friend Margherita. She's an official tourist guide with great passion for truffles and local traditions to translate every part of the hunting.

What To Expect

Discover the secrets and traditional techniques in a real hunt for the precious white or black truffle with a professional "Trifolao" and his inseparable dog. Understand how, where and why truffles grow in our area, how dogs are trained, learn the differences between white and black truffles and enjoy the intense aroma. You will meet the guide at the meeting point, follow her car to one of the secret places where the "Trifolao" awaits you for a pleasant nature walk in search of truffles! After the search you can enjoy a wine tasting in a typical family-run winery where you will taste different wines including the renowned Barolo, accompanied by small samples of typical and local products such as salami or cheese and breadsticks. White truffle season: from 1st of Oct. to 31st of Jan.-black truffle: different types at different times of the year. Truffles found during the search are not included but can be purchased from Trifolao. During the autumn season, warm and comfortable clothing is recommended, rain coats and rubber boots are available. A car it's necessary to move between Alba, the woods and the winery. Transfer can be provided on request. Meeting point can be change.

A wonderful experience with Gigi, a 1 year old Pointer. The guide was great, super sweet to the dog, gave very good explanations... a super nice man, with passion for dogs and truffle hunting. The wine tasting at Cadia was great. Nice tour, and top wines. This activity is absolutely recommended.

Fun/Informative experience with super nice accommodators. We were able to find 3 black truffles today although it's a low season. ( if you want to try finding white truffles, you will need to come in winter. The dog, Hublot ( sorry if I misspell your name) is very skillef and well trained, you will be blown away. high recommend this tour :)

The trip was well organized! Cute and skilled guide! Easy to find the meeting point! Borrowed rubber boots in the forest, which was very plowed. Lovely dog and skilled truffle doctor!

Very good walking tour with dog and licensed truffle hunter. Well translated in English. Highly recommended. Yield 3 black and two white truffles, which could be bought locally. It couldn't be fresher and more authentic.

We had a wonderful time participating in this tour. Our guide was Frederica, who was personable , very knowledgeable about everything Alba, not only truffles, and just a lovely sweet young woman. We spent almost 3 hours with her, the hunter, his dog, and about 4 other couples. The hunter was also very personable and knowledgeable and his adorable dog , did not disappoint ! I think she found about 5 truffles, black and white! This was a fun afternoon and not something we could ever experience “ at home”. It was totally worth the price and I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to this area. Be sure to book in advance.
