I'm pleased I chose to go on a tour with a guide. Patrizia did her best to keep things moving to schedule (despite the galleries best attempts to thwart her and the sheer volume of people inside and out). Her knowledge about the art is next level and the detail she provided for every piece was amazing. I learnt a lot. I was pleased I could stay in the gallery after the tour and go back over some of the bits she didn't cover or I wanted to spend more time with.

It is unquestionably one of the great museums of the world, but it is extremely crowded. Our guide did her best to keep us moving through while explaining some of the finer points of the paintings. We had some difficulty in hearing her, mainly because of the background noise that was everywhere we went. Our group had 15 people, which worked well enough. If we were to return, we would concentrate on some of the rooms with later paintings. Surprisingly, the bathrooms one floor down from the cafe were modern and not too crowded

Felt like I was getting quizzed by a professor. Some interaction is fine, but we only got to 3-5 pieces in 45 minutes. So much to see and the tour was not moving fast.
