Swayambhunath Stupa "The Monkey Temple," is located on the top of Kathmandu. It has 365 stairs to be actual that contains you to the top for the exceptional view of the city itself. You can locate many small shrines and souvenir shops on the way to top with monkeys roaming around freely. You are free to take pix on the road, and some monkeys would possibly pose for a photo too. As the top, you will see a sizeable gold-plated thunderbolt (Vajra). It is one of the intriguing monuments there. Also, right next to it is the large white dome with a cubical top. You will also see many prayers wheels of special sizes nearly in every section around the Swayambhunath.
Swaymbhunath
You can go around the stupa spinning the prayer wheels, and you will even see many Hindu temples and deities that co-exist in concord in this Buddhist site. Along the way, you will observe many other shrines, stupas, gravestones, and offering places. Then you will head in the direction of the western boundary of the Swayambhunath. You will see a sacred pond stuffed with coins and many human beings attempting to toss the coins in the core of the small pond. Vendors are found around the location with many Thanka arts and stunning souvenirs. On attaining the western side, huge statues of Buddha can be found. You then will walk around the hill and find many prayers wheels of distinctive sizes nearly in every phase around the mountain.

I joined the UNESCO Seven World Heritage Tour in Kathmandu and it exceeded all expectations. We explored the stunning stupas, ancient temples, and historic Durbar Squares across the valley, and having Shanti as our guide made all the difference. Shanti was knowledgeable, organized, and very warm and engaging. She shared the stories behind places like the old palace squares and the famous Buddhist stupas in a way that was easy to understand and truly memorable. The day was perfectly paced with enough time for photos, snacks, and questions. Highly recommend this tour, and especially Shanti, to anyone wanting to really understand Kathmandu’s culture and history

From the moment we were picked up, our guide Shanti made our one-day tour absolutely memorable. Her English was fluent and natural, and she didn’t just tell us facts—she wove stories about Nepal’s heritage, beliefs and traditions that brought every stop alive. She was attentive to our pace and energy levels, making sure we had enough time at each site without ever feeling rushed. The little touches—pauses for great photo-ops, suggestions for authentic local snacks, her warm kindness throughout—made a huge difference. I came away not just having visited the UNESCO sites, but feeling that I really understood them. If you book the “Seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites” tour in Kathmandu, ask for Shanti. You’ll not only get an expert guide—you’ll get someone who takes care of you the whole day and makes the experience special. Thank you, Shanti! 🙏

THANK YOU to super Shanti for being the greatest private guide around all 7 of Kathmandu’s most famous spots! She was able to customise the tour, explain everything about Nepal and spoke with native level English too. Not only a private guide but also like a private photographer helping me to get perfect shots every time! Recommended

I had such a wonderful time seeing all the beautiful heritage sites and learning about the god/goddesses of the Hindu religion, and the origins of Buddhism! Shanti was patient and kind, and she gave me plenty of time to appreciate every detail of each location. I didn’t have a lot of free time on this trip, so this ended up being the perfect way to see what Nepal could offer.

We had a wonderful guide, Pankaz, he was very knowledgeable about the Hindu and Buddhist religions and about the history of the temples. He was very courteous and didn’t rush us through the tour but kept it at our pace. The driver, Gopal was prompt and also very courteous in assisting me to get in and out of the vehicle. The vehicle was very clean and he always asked if the air conditioning was at a comfortable temperature. All in all it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend these guys to anyone.
