These days the sights are so crowded that a skip the line ticket is necessary and a guided tour instead of an experience is vital in my opinion. It's nice to be able to skip the long lines but having a guide is even better. We loved our guide. He knew so much and we learned a lot. He was easy to understand and was just right with the information he shared making it so that we didn't feel overwhelmed when we left. The museums and chapel are stunning and there are no words for St Peter's Basilica which can be an option following the tour. The Basilica is incredible and possibly our favorite in Rome.

When we arrived at the meeting area, the tour company didn’t get us into the venue. They cut into a very long line and left us to be yelled at by everyone. It was a scam.

Due to a glitch somewhere in the system, the tour company did not know we were coming (despite having reserved the tour almost a week in advance). They were able to accommodate us in the end but it did cause some confusion. Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable on the Vatican and the museums, but the time allowed was too short. As we walked down the long corridors of thd museum, there was not enough time to really stop and look at the artifacts on display.
