Palace was too crowded and it was hard to hear the tour guide. Probably would have been better just to do the garden visit.

If you want to navigate your way through this must-do French experience, I highly recommended this tour. The lines are tough and the crowds are intense, so having an expert and being able to skip some of the long lines was a godsend. Our guide, Thyago, was incredibly knowledgeable and very kind. He helped ensure we got as close as possible to most of the top attractions inside the palace and he even brings you to a great spot to take pics in the Hall of Mirrors. We bought our tickets to the gardens separately, which oddly worked in out favour as the line to buy tickets for the gardens was shorter than the prepaid ticket holder line and as soon as you get your ticket you are entered into the grounds. Also, this may not be the norm, but the line for the private golf cart rental was slightly faster than the line for the train, so we opted for that experience as we are travelling as a family of 4 and the carts were good value for money. That said, both lines are long (we waited about 1-hour total). If we weren’t so exhausted from 2-days of non-stop walking tours of Paris, we would have elected to stroll the grounds. We opted to leave the palace after the tour to venture off to the Norte Dame area near the palace. Thyago recommended the market for lunch, which we agree was a much better option than trying to eat at the palace. After lunch we just walked back to Versailles for the garden tour. We took the Metro + 171 bus. It was efficient and affordable.

Fantastic tour with a fantastic and knowledgeable local guide! Mauro was wonderful and despite the crowds he did an excellent job providing historical context as well as details about the palace.
