1. You climb inside a gorge, not up a wall
Every other via ferrata in the area (Mojstrana, Mala Mojstrovka, Mangart) takes you up an exposed rock face. Hvadnik puts you inside a canyon, enclosed walls, different light, completely different atmosphere. That's rare even across Slovenia.
2. You cross the stream three times
Water is a massive sensory differentiator. You hear waterfalls, you feel the spray, you may get wet. That's memorable in a way that a dry rock climb simply isn't.

The gorge provides natural shade and the stream keeps temperatures down. When it's 30°C in Bled, Hvadnik is comfortable.
4. The Martuljek mountain backdrop
Špik and the Martuljek group are visually spectacular, jagged, dramatic peaks that look different from the Triglav massif most tourists see. Views here feel undiscovered.

What To Expect
Most via ferratas take you up a wall. This one takes you through a canyon. Via Ferrata Hvadnik follows the Hvadnik stream deep into a wild limestone gorge above the alpine village of Gozd Martuljek. You'll climb vertical canyon walls with the roar of waterfalls below you, cross the stream three times on iron rungs and suspension bridges, and emerge at the top to sweeping views of the Martuljek mountain group, the most dramatic peak in the Julian Alps, with the spiky silhouette of Špik towering overhead. The route is Grade B/C, a step up from a beginner ferrata, but accessible to anyone with reasonable fitness and a sense of adventure. The gorge keeps you cool in summer heat, the bridges add a heart-in-mouth moment, and the enclosed canyon walls make every move feel immersive in a way that open ridgeline ferratas simply can't match. Your IFMGA-certified guide handles equipment fitting, safety briefing, and technique coaching before you start. No experience needed. At 500m long with 250m of vertical gain, this is a half-day adventure that punches well above its weight. You'll be back in Bled in time for lunch, with stories that'll last considerably longer.

5.00The guide was great and the climb was amazing. The guide was helpful, encouraging, knowledgeable, and very fluent in English. I recommend a good stretch before starting the climb. My 13 yo daughter had a blast. We came during the off season, and had the whole mountain to ourselves. We even got to do some repelling and top rope climbing. The views were unique and amazing.

5.00Nice active climb. Definitely not too hard, but still a bit challenging. The views was very nice and there were some great spots to take pictures. The guides also made pictures, which was very convenient! With larger groups you will have to wait for the rest quite often and you won't see everyone at the same time. Probably best to go with people of the same skill level, or smaller groups (around 3 sounds great), but for a more relaxing climb larger groups are fine as well

5.00We had an amazing time climbing the via ferrata! Our guides were incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful throughout the entire experience. They made us feel safe and supported, even when the route became more challenging. Their knowledge of the area and enthusiasm added a lot to the day. The equipment was in great condition, and everything was well organized from start to finish. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, this is a great way to explore the mountains and enjoy some breathtaking views. Highly recommended – we’d definitely do it again!

5.00Matevz was a fantastic guide for us today. I have never done a Via Ferrata before, but felt very safe and secure the entire time. His instructions were very clear to understand. We did two routes today. Both provided different challenges throughout, but had incredible views at the end. Would highly recommend altitude activities, and would go with them again for another extreme sport when I revisit Bled in the future!
