Located approximately 2.5 hours south of Manila is the quaint and historic Villa Escudero. Hidden amidst coconut palms, the villa is reminiscent of old plantation life. The Villa Escudero resort is nestled deeply into its placid natural surroundings, offering breathtaking views of the Philippine countryside year round. One of the major highlights of the tour is a family museum of archaeological artifacts and private collections of antique relics from periods ranging from Pre-History, Spanish colonial times and World War II. Local folks will serenade you on board water buffalo-drawn carts that transport you going to a man-made waterfall that provides hydroelectric power to the plantation. Lunch is served at the foot of the falls on tables set right on top of the gently flowing water. Their waterfall restaurant sits at the foot of the Labasin Falls where guests can enjoy local cuisine at handmade bamboo tables while clear spring water runs over their feet. The falls are so people friendly, guests can even lie against the rushing water covered wall for quick massage or post-lunch rinse off. This is one resort where no shirt and no shoes are no problem.

We took a Great Sights Tour which was very expensive ( 4800 pesos) but worth the experience. On arrival, there was a welcome drink and toilet facilities. We were then taken on a Cart Ride with a guitarist and singer on board, round the estate. Next was the private museum that belong to the owners of the estate. It was interesting to see the various floats parked in there for the use of festivals. The museum also gave us a good insight into the politics of the Phillipines. Next, we were taken in the cart again to the changing rooms so that we can wear gear more suitable to the waterfall restaurant. Bring a change of clothes, towels and jandals. The restaurant has all of its tables in water. The water level is about knee deep. The floor of the waterfall is quite slippery. So ladies, do accept the waiters' hands to guide you to the tables. The buffet lunch was excellent. A good variety of fish, chicken, beef and vegetables. You need to pay for drinks because that is not included in the tour price. There are no utensils for lunch. Hence bring some disposables with you. The waterfall is just in the background and so you will get sprayed if you sit too close or if you want shots by the waterfall. After lunch, you can go for a good dip in the swimming pools nearby or try your hand at steering a boat by the river. This is an all day trip and a very enjoyable one until you hit the traffic going back to Manila. That itself can take a few hours.

This was an amazing tour in which we ventured outside of the city to Villa Escudero Plantation and had an authentic lunch while being seated in the river and enjoying the countryside.

We went there last June 12. There package was 1600 per person. It includes buffet lunch beside the waterfalls. Riding the carabao cart, museum tour. They also have cultural show during holidays and weekends. We enjoyed the pool with jacuzzi. The only problem is the stairs going down to the waterfalls quite steep. Also there are too many people since its a holiday so long line at the buffet table. Lunch is serve 11am.
