Paia

Ke'anae Arboretum
Located adjacent to the Pi'ina'au Stream, the Ke'anae Arboretum features terraces built by ancient Hawaiians for cultivating taro, which was a staple of their diet. A paved walkway measuring 0.6 miles runs through the arboretum, showcasing a diverse array of timber, fruit, and ornamental trees from different tropical regions of the world, many of which are labeled with nameplates. With over 150 types of tropical plants, including taro, the arboretum is an excellent spot to observe native flowers and marvel at the vibrant bark of rainbow eucalyptus trees.

Our travel agent set us up with our Road To Hana tour with Donovan! We had such a wonderful day. Donovan was very knowledgeable about the area! He had superb driving skills on a windy, crazy drive! We felt comfortable and entertained and welcomed throughout the tour. He made sure the stop in all of the places that our group would enjoy the most. Get the coconut ice cream! The iced coffee and if you can, do a banana bread comparison. You'll see lesser known beach areas, incredible views and you'll feel like you've seen a whole lot of this gorgeous island. Thank you Donovan.

The private Road to Hana was on the 1st day of our Norwegian Cruise, and was the perfect start to the trip because it felt like we fit a ton of experiences in. We should also mention that this was just weeks after the March 2026 storms, so about half of the original itinerary stops were still closed. A couple of days before the tour, we got in touch with Experience Hawaii, and they were honest about the current state of things, assured us it was safe, businesses were open and looking for visitors, and that there were plenty of alternatives to the original itinerary, so we'd still have a great time. And they delivered. Cully was the perfect guide, taking us to local stalls for chocolate, banana bread, pizza with local breadfruit, cow cuddles, huli-huli chicken, black and red sand beaches, and phenomenal photos. When we had an unexpected adventure, losing (and finding) all of our phones in a wave, Cully swooped them up and took care of cleaning them while we cleaned ourselves up (best story of the trip -- those waves are powerful). We were also lucky to have a driver who knew the road -- on the drive back, we passed many drivers white -knuckling steering wheels.

We set out on the famous Road to Hana with our private guide. Overcast skies, but thankfully little to no rain. Along the way, we heard incredible history about the island and stopped at some absolutely breathtaking spots. And then…mid-journey…our SUV decided it was done for the day. Just stopped. No warning. No cell signal. Satellite? Nope. ( I can’t make this stuff up!!😳😂) But here’s where things turned around—beautifully. A couple of other tour guides from the same company who had passed us earlier came back when they realized we were in trouble. Between them, they had space for the four of us and brought us along so we could continue the journey. 💕 Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. A little hiccup turned into a powerful reminder of how kind and connected people can be—even on a winding road in the middle of paradise.

If you are looking for the ultimate Maui experience, look no further than Spencer. He isn’t just a tour guide; he is an incredible host who makes you feel like ohana from the moment you meet him. Spencer’s knowledge of the island is unparalleled. He is deeply connected to the community, sharing stories and hidden gems that you simply won't find in a guidebook. We spent our day in total awe of the landscape, and we truly can’t imagine a better way to see all the amazingness Maui has to offer. Every stop felt intentional and every story felt personal. If you want a trip that is pure shaka vibes and authentic island magic, Spencer is your man. Mahalo nui loa, Spencer, for an unforgettable adventure! We’re already dreaming of our next trip back. A hui hou!

We had a great day with John who took my family on a tour of the road to Hana. He was so knowledgeable of Maui and Hawaii and we loved learning about the history and nature. We traveled with my boys (4 & 6) and by the end of the day they were wondering why we couldn’t spend every day with John. Hiring John allowed us to relax and enjoy the beauty of the country with an expert. I highly recommend using John as your guide.

We cruised to Hawaii and just happened to sail right into a fairly crazy winter storm.. we were a tiny bit concerned about the conditions on the road (there were a million crazy storm warnings etc), and we were so grateful we had Charlie to take us on this windy road to Hana in the unpredictable weather! Charlie was experienced and took us to amazing stops along the way! He taught us about the local flora and fauna! We even got to stop and see some turtles on the beach! Although the weather was a bit dicey on this whole trip, our journey on the road to Hana was definitely one of our most memorable! I definitely recommend booking this excursion vs driving yourself as these roads are insanely windy and NARROW! Plus, not worrying about finding a parking space was nice! Didn’t get as many pictures as I should have because I was just enjoying the views and the ride! Def bring some nausea meds if you are prone to getting carsick though!
