Paia
No trip to Maui is complete without a trip to Paia, Maui’s coolest little town. Located on the North Shore, Paia started as a plantation town with the opening of Paia Store in 1896 to serve the needs of the multi-cultural plantation workers of Paia Sugar Mill.
Ke'anae Arboretum
Located adjacent to the Pi'ina'au Stream, the Ke'anae Arboretum features terraces built by ancient Hawaiians for cultivating taro, which was a staple of their diet. A paved walkway measuring 0.6 miles runs through the arboretum, showcasing a diverse array of timber, fruit, and ornamental trees from different tropical regions of the world, many of which are labeled with nameplates. With over 150 types of tropical plants, including taro, the arboretum is an excellent spot to observe native flowers and marvel at the vibrant bark of rainbow eucalyptus trees.

We had an awesome trip with Donovan! He had great ideas but allowed us to pick what we wanted to do. He was very knowledgeable about the island and shared some good stories. This is our second trip with this company & we would highly recommend it.

This was the star of our trip to Hawaii. Not only was the road to Hāna beautiful but the local knowledge and stories that our tour guide Melissa shared with us throughout the day made it a once in a lifetime experience. The road was much too difficult for us to do by ourselves and the ability to sit back and relax and take in the sights was so worth it. She also took photos of us and shared a whole album after the tour which was incredible. Can’t recommend this or Melissa enough.

This tour was not what we expected or what was described. It stated that snacks, water and soda were included. Not once were we offered any of these items. It rained the majority of the day. We understand that we cannot control the weather. However, our tour guide seemed to use the rain as an excuse to skip most of the stops on the tour. We did not stop at the Arboretum, Ke'anae Point, Pua'a Ka'a State Park, Hana Gold Cacoa Plantation, or Koki Beach. The itinerary stated shopping and exploring in Hana. We only ate lunch there. There was not an option to stop and see any waterfalls up close. Our guide slowed down or pulled over so we could get a quick picture. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. We expected a fun day of seeing the sights on the Road to Hana. Instead, it was a long day spent mostly in the car.

We had an amazing time. Micheal helped us book last minute and Levi and Koby were so knowledgable, friendly and accommodating with our time constraint. We were able to hit the major ‘must-sees’ and still get back in time. They went above and beyond for us and we were so grateful! Would highly recommend this company.

We booked the road to Hana tour with Shayne of Experienxe Hawaii tours. He was super flexible with our schedge and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend this company for your Hana Tours as you don’t have to worry about the drive and they take you to all the cool local spots you wouldn’t know about from a big tour company. 5 stars for Shayne! Super cool dude and put up with my 3 boys like a champ.

Our family had a great tour with this company. Actually, the day started off wrong. We were supposed to meet at 8:30 AM at our designated meeting point and we arrived there on time. However, after waiting about 10-15 minutes, we got a call saying that one of the other tour guides from the company had accidentally taken the key to our SUV with him on his tour. Our tour guide Kobe was unable to pick us up because he didn’t have the key for our tour vehicle. So then my husband and I were trying to figure out if we should just try to do the road to Hana tour on our own using an app or if we should just reschedule this tour which would’ve been hard since our schedule for the week was already pretty tight. Kobe called us back about 10 minutes later and told us that he was able to find a spare key for the tour car and that he would be able to pick us up in 15 more minutes. We decided to just wait and do the tour. But then when he picked us up, he said that he still had to get gas for the car so that was annoying but then the gas stop actually didn’t take that much time at all so it was ok. The tour ended up starting around 9:15 or 9:30. The tour itself was great. Our tour guide to Kobe was personable and had a great sense of humor and had great knowledge of the history and culture of Maui and of the local area. He was very easy to talk to. He was very flexible because we told him that we didn’t want to stop at all the stops that we needed to just focus on ones that would be more easily manageable for my elderly mother and my husband‘s parents.. Kobe was also an excellent driver. He was able to navigate the tricky roads and the tight bridges and he was also able to park easily in the hectic parking areas He definitely knew what he was doing which was so nice to know. He was also great with my two temperamental teenage boys and he was able to share a bunch of dad jokes with my younger son who loves them himself. All in all it was a great experience. My only complaints are that it started off on the wrong foot in terms of time and also the vehicle that we were in was nice enough, but my husband and my two boys in the back did look a little snug in the back and their windows weren’t that easy to see through. The car also looked older and had scratches and dings on one side I was expecting to be picked up in one of those large black tour vans so I was surprised that it was this older looking SUV truck. Since my mother-in-law myself and my elderly mother were in the middle row, we had to constantly move the seat so that the third row people could get out and that seat was a little tricky to manage. My sweet husband and boys sat in the back since they didn’t get car sick really and my husband had already done this road to Hana tour before. We didn’t worry about the air-conditioning or heating though because the weather was nice. Overall, I would give this tour four stars out of five just because the timing wasn’t great at the beginning and also it would’ve been nice to have a more comfortable car that you can all see easily out of and easily get in and out of.

We had a private tour; it was just my husband and me. Our guide Eo was very knowledgeable about plants, the geology, the customs, and the history of Hawaii. He had an incredible sense of timing and arrived at every stop just before a crowded bus pulled in. This served to put us at the front of any lines and gave us perfect opportunities for photos without others in the picture. We think Eo might even control the weather as the rain was usually before or after our stop. He had large umbrellas available for the few times we stopped in the rain. Eo got us to every point of interest on our list. He allowed us ample time at the black sand beach to hike/climb over the rocks and to go into the lava tube. We are seniors and not as agile as when we were young. Eo was friendly, accommodating, polite, respectful, and so well-informed. We met a potbelly pig and saw so many giant sea turtles! We saw the red sand beach, had lunch at Uncle Russel’s Huli Huli Chicken, sampled cacao/chocolate, had coconut ice cream, and bought some banana bread. Eo also gave us tips of things to do and see on the next 2 islands we will be visiting. If you are in Maui, you should request Eo as your guide on the Road to Hana. You will be glad you did.

When Cody picked us up and asked “How adventurous are you feeling today?” our answer was “Very!”. He did not disappoint. Many of the tour companies offer The Road to Hana, with limited time at stops, a boxed lunch and a return to the ship. If that is you want this is not your answer. If you want to see the most popular sites on the Road to Hana, plus stop and explore a waterfall that no one else knows about to spend time with your family hiking to the waterfall, swimming in the cool water and then dive off a 30 foot cliff, this is just the start.

Road to Hana with sunset was incredible! We were a group of 19 traveling in three large SUVs, and everything ran smoothly. All three guides were amazing, knowledgeable, friendly, and full of great info about the island. They took us to fantastic stops along the way and made the whole experience fun and memorable. Ending with the sunset was the perfect touch. Highly recommend!
