Wat Phnom

The first stop will be at the significant historical site of Phnom Penh, Wat Phnom. I will show you the Lady Penh statue and explain the history of Lady Penh before climbing up the steps. The entrance fee is USD1.

This is one of the most important monastery in Phnom Penh that was built in 1442 after the capital founded in 1434 by King Ponhea Yarth. Free Entrance

Highly Entertaining Despite Being Tough

I not only got the wonderful Mr. Sop as driver and guide, but he kept a bunch of us middle-aged beer-drinkers from multiple English-speaking countries quite entertained. That's not always an easy task with the subject matter at hand when you talk about late 20th Century Cambodia. Even if you know a little before you go, you'll see things that are both wonderful and highly heartbreaking (learn from them, please). Highly recommended.

Mr. Sop was very friendly and knowledgeable about the many major monuments and sites in and around Phnom Penh. He reworked our tour to go to the sites when they were least busy and most efficient, and provided me all the time I needed to experience each at my own speed. His van was well air conditioned and a welcome respite from the heat. As clearly described by the aviator description, all ticket and meals costs are not included, so make sure to bring cash (at least for experience tickets). Given the time I took at both S21 and Killing Fields, we finished around 5pm. Mr. Sop was very generous with his time and I’d highly recommend him/this experience as a great way to quickly get to know the city.

This tour was time well spent. Pum was an excellent guide - very knowledgeable, generous spirit, and great explanations in clear English. We were not able to go in to the Wats due to heavy rain and some street flooding, but still enjoyed them from outside with explanations given in the very comfortable air conditioned and newer van. All of the other sites were worthwhile, with the Killing Fields and S21 being heavy but indispensable. We highly recommend this tour.
