We walked the Te Ara Hura trail with a group of friends and family. The walk was varied and interesting. Highlights were on the 2nd and 3rd days which were nearly all off road through beautiful native forest and quiet beaches. The bird song along the way was fabulous thanks to the efforts of local people trapping predators. The 2nd day is all on road and I imagine on a hot summers day it would be quite hot and dusty. The trail has lots of ups and downs and the days are quite long, all absolutely fine for those of average fitness. We also found cafes, wineries and a gin distillery to visit along the way. Gabrielle's trip notes were really helpful for finding our way as the Te Ara Hura signs are sometimes few and far between, she also gave us a lot of interesting background information and history of the island. The accommodation was superb - right over the road from the beach and the food was outstanding. It was great to return to such comfort after a long days walking.
