Allow plenty time to see everything! We went back the next day because one day wasn’t enough. There is a lot to read in the museum. Amazing history to be learned. The cultural show was fantastic and the Hangi was delicious.

Took two days to see everything on offer, both museums are brilliant, so are the day and night cultural shows topped off by a delicious hangi meal, cafe does great coffee, parking in a small camper was easy. Had to be the tribal chief for the night and managed to survive so it was a blast

Cannot recommend this experience enough. A beautiful night immersed in the Maori culture. As a kiwi living in Australia it was such a blessing to be able to take my children to the Waitangi grounds so they could learn about their culture and also taste their first hangi. They are usually fussy eaters but they all went for seconds of both dinner and desert! If you are in NZ I highly recommend you make the journey up north to the bay of islands and book in to see the Waitangi grounds and museum in the day and stay around for the evening concert and hangi. Stamp of approval also given by my 8 year old who said she had a great time there :)

Excellent communication from Waitangi answering my questions before my visit. Very interesting guided tour. Excellent concert and cultural performance. Hangi was a lot of food and excellent quality. This is a great cultural experience not to be missed. Enjoyed being Chief at the welcoming ceremony My only complaint is that the online info did not make it clear that there was a free regular shuttle transfer available to get us from and back to the Russell-Pahia Ferry, luckily our accommodation informed us of this.

What an excellent immersion into the Maori culture and history surrounding the Treaty of Waitangi! We really, really enjoyed the whole experience: from the guided tour of the Treaty Grounds in the afternoon, through to the ceremonious welcome and concert at night, and the absolutely magnificent hangi afterwards. Special thanks to our host in the evening, who not only took time to explain the cultural significance of the many experiences, but then sat down at our table and happily answered our many questions. Kia ora. Respect.

We had the most amazing evening at the treaty grounds. We were welcomed and offered a complimentary welcome drink. The evening was explained in detail and we had a journey through the forest to experience a Maori welcome by the tribe. We then had a great concert of traditional singing and dance and games followed by amazing food cooked in a hangi in a relaxed setting. I found the whole experience so informative but also emotional. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in Maori culture and tradition.

It was a great informative experience with excellent food and enthusiastic tour guides. However the experience was also highly sexist. When a young girl next to me wanted the opportunity be ‘chief’ they shut her down and said only the men can be. What kind of message is that to a young girl. I understand that historically the men were chiefs but in the 21st century this was quite difficult to sit with. Disappointing for a space that is proclaiming to be all for equality.

Outstanding day time tour with Rose our guide who brought great passion and knowledge to the tour. We were lucky to then have Rose for the evening hangi and show. The whole evening was beautifully done from the welcome to the warrior challenge to the show and then the outstanding food. Perfect.

We really enjoyed the dinner and show and meeting up with fellow travellers. We had the combo and arrived at 3:45pm thinking we would have enough time to wander around. We spent some time at the Waka and walked up the hill. We were too late for the museum which was a shame as it was closed at 4:30. We met the group for a welcome drink and then proceeded up the hill to the concert and then back down for the dinner. The food was plentiful and tasty. You could also buy drinks. Well worth it and we learnt a lot about Māori culture.
