Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
For this tour we wake up and leave early in the morning at 05:00 - 05:10 am. and drive up into the mountains to visit the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple ( A Chiang Mai Land-mark.) We highly recommend visiting this famous temple at dawn. The temple is quiet and the monks are just chanting, rousing and going out to receive alms offerings. Without any crowds you can enjoy the magical morning light and incredible views in serenity. It is the beginning to a great and wonderful day. Doi Suthep temple is located on the peak of the Doi Suthep Mountains and is the most famous landmark in Chiang Mai. They say you have not truly been to Chiang Mai if you have not visited this temple ! At the top of the temple you can view the pagoda shining with real gold, and a viewing platform offers panoramic views of the whole Chiang Mai City – take in the wonderful countryside landscape while the sun rises behind the city and mountains. The morning sky and view could be immortalized in a beautiful painting ! Morning life at the temple is unforgettable -the sound of temple bells, monks chanting and the fascinating view of Chiang Mai will fill your heart. Don’t leave Chiang Mai without this impression.!!! Before we continue to the other sites, we will have a nice and original taste of famous and delicious Chiang Mai food. ( Khoi Soy or Thai local breakfast sticky rice and Local Thai KFC. ) After sunrise. we will drop by at the hidden jungle temple and Wat U-Mong to enjoy the serenity surrounding & peace ! What an amazing experience!! We went as part of our honeymoon and had such an amazing time witnessing Buddhist culture and the monks in their morning ritual. Our guide, Tu, was the sweetest and had so much knowledge from 11 years of being a monk. Highly recommend this tour, i don’t think we would’ve gotten as much out of it if we went on our own even at sunrise.

We saw: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep ⁃ wat pha lat ⁃ Wat umong Tour by Tu, a Thai who was a Buddhist monk for 11 years. We took a van to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, built 1383, up a hill 9 miles from chiang mai. Elephants led the way to the site , and thus the temple was established there. We walked up a staircase with naga on either side up 309 steps. There is a gold chedi, that we walked around 3 times with a flower as offering, lit a candle. We watched the monks in orange robes chant , and watched the sun rise, then participated in their morning ritual of collecting food donations. The monks line up with their bowls, and start at suthep and walk into the village barefoot. We handed out wrapped rice crackers . There were Akita dogs wandering around. We asked our tour guide, tu, what elephant tour he would recommend, and he mentioned his family had elephants growing up. Included in the tour was choice of breakfast ( rice dishes, noodle dishes) at a food stand up near the temple. We really enjoyed the tour

Amazing day and former monk was incredibly knowledgeable. Pickup and drop off was a breeze. Tour was longer than advertised so be aware not to make plans immediately afterwards.

This tour was absolutely wonderful. Our tour guide Bea was very knowledgeable and attentive. She immersed us in the Buddhist practices and taught us about the history of the temples. This is a must do if you are in Chiang Mai!

5 stars are not enough to rate this experience! It's like nothing we would have ever expected or got anywhere else! Our guide, Tom, who is an ex-monk, knew the best spots away from the tourist crowds. He shared with us interesting stories, helped us get an insight into the Thai culture and religion and immersed us in nature in a way we would have never expected. Thank you for this spiritual journey, Tom!

If you want a more personal experience with a former monk who will share his insights, take photos, and let you walk around at your own pace, this is perfect! Our family absolutely LOVED the three temples, the view, the peaceful vibes, and really began to understand why Thai people are just naturally friendly. We got to talk to a monk and receive a special blessing. Such a great, great day!
