This tour is mainly about the sculpture by Richard Serra. The breathtaking sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve in the desert.
Ras Brouq – a peninsula located on the west coast of Qatar – bears the remains of prehistoric human occupation. The beautiful and iconic rock formations at Ras Brouq offer a glimpse of a prehistoric landscape.
And in between you will get to see the Mushroom Rock Formation, Zekreet Village and Zekreet Fort Ruins.

What To Expect
Zekreet Fort Ruins
Zekreet is a village in north-western Qatar. Zekreet fort is on the west coast of Qatar, 90 km from Doha. The fort has a very distinctive layout that allows seeing the two different phases of construction. Originally, the fort was built as a simple square without towers in each corner. In a second phase of development, towers were added at the outer four corners of the fort.

Internationally acclaimed artist Richard Serra adds the astonishing East-West/West-East sculpture to the desert landscape, taking art to the people.East-West/West-East has become a famous landmark in Qatar since its installation in 2014. This breathtaking sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve spans over a kilometre and comprises four steel plates, each over fourteen metres in height.

4.00An interesting trip out of Doha, with the highlight being Richard Serra's amazing East-West / West-East art installation. It was also worth seeing the striking landscape around Mushroom Rock. All-in-all, we enjoyed our time with our guide Muhammad, who was knowledgeable, polite and patient. We felt in very safe hands.

5.00Excellent half-day tour of Western Qatar that included the Mushroom top rocks, East-West West-East monoliths, Zekreet Fort ruins. We also did a stop at the camel race track for a quick look around. Our guide, Zubair was engaging and well informed about the area and the sites we visited.

5.00This was a last-minute travel decision made after seeing photos of Richard Serra’s land art and the Zekreet rock formations. The tour did not disappoint. Muhammad Yasin did a wonderful job touring us to this fascinating and underappreciated destination.
Serra monoliths steal the show

5.00Driver Muhammad was a great companion as I was his only guest on the tour! It was good to get out of the city and get a feel for the landscape. The mushroom rocks were pretty cool, but it was the Serra monoliths that stole the show. Had a lot of fun with Muhammad taking some quirky photos. A terrific diversion and well worth the effort.
