Sjóferðir ehf is a proud member of IceWhale association which promotes a code of conduct for whale watching ensuring the best possible encounter, both for animal welfare and passenger enjoyment.Sjóferðir also works in conjunction with the UK based charity Whale Wise, a team of conservationists, scientists and educators, working to understand and improve the relationship between whales and humans.
Due to the high number of people asking, we would like to clarify that there are toilets on all of our boats.

What To Expect
As you board the sturdy vessel, you'll feel the anticipation building in the crisp Arctic air. Leaving the harbor behind, the boat glides smoothly across the glassy surface of the fjord, offering panoramic views of the rugged coastline. Keep your eyes peeled as seabirds wheel overhead, signaling the presence of marine life below. In 2023 we had a 100% chance of seeing humpback whales. If we are lucky maybe the occasional minke whale, orca or dolphin. Returning to Isafjordur harbor, you carry with you memories that will last a lifetime, a testament to the unparalleled beauty and biodiversity of Iceland's wild waters.

5.00Whales were one animal we wanted to see on this vacation. This tour did not disappoint. Saw so many whales. Pilot and guide were able to explain everything. Trip was amazing.

5.00We had a great experience. The trip started a little slow and I thought we would only see one fluke, but we eventually found a couple of whales and followed them around for a half hour or so. Very entertaining. Our guide was knowledgeable and our captain did a nice job keeping us close to the action. I would do it again. The office was easy to find on the Isafjodur harbor and the boat ride was calm. We had wonderful weather. Our tour group was small, so we were able to interact a little more with our guide.

5.00The boat is quite small, holds around 30 ish people. There is a small outside deck area at the front. We had the best possible weather, but on a windy day it could be a bit of a white-knuckle ride. The captain promised a good trip, and boy did he deliver. A 45 min journey downa dead-end fjord led us to a pair of humpbacks. The captain was skillful in drifting the boat into the right spot, using mostly wind and waves rather than engine. He's not afraid to get in close, and is clearly experienced at it. We overstayed our time a bit as there was so much activity.. as we started to head back, a 3rd whale showed itself as a surprise farewell. Despite the time, we were able to hang around a bit and ended up surrounded by all 3! We were even joined by a flock(?) of puffins! I know this can't be guaranteed every trip, but for us it was outstanding. The crew are lovely, and even handed out blankets when it got a bit chilly. Very highly recommended!

5.00I cannot say how happy I am to have enough this tour! Our guides were very knowledgeable and despite the weather the journey in the fjord was pleasant. We spot several whales during our time out, they really tried to provide to all of us an opportunity to see those giants plays and tease. Was superb ❤️
