The opportunity to see items from The Hobbit and The Lord Of the Rings was cool but the sound isolation between the rooms of the tour is poor. While our guide was talking we could hear the guide in the next room…. Sometimes louder than our guide. The walls on the rooms don’t go up to the ceiling so noise overlap is a problem The workshop at the end on fashioning things from tinfoil might be better suited to youngsters and the upsell for photos holding prop swords was a bit tacky The tour was okay but not the best value for money compared to other tours we have taken

The tour was so hassle free, easy to locate the bus stop and had a great commentary on the way to Weta Workshop by our guide. The workshop tour was so interesting and such an experience to see and interact with objects from many movies.

This was my second visit, first one was 2014. The tour was terrific. Our guide, Liam, was very informative and kept things rolling with humour and anecdotes. The weapons room was an interesting stop. The differences between the swords used for close ups and those for general scenes was interesting. The best part for me was the room where animals were created using cardboard and aluminium foil. The jokes and information from the host made this part very enjoyable.

We loved our tour of Wētā Workshop, starting with the absolute treat of being picked up by the lovely Derek for an enjoyable and informative drive through town to the workshop. Brandon was a fantastic guide, taking us through the different areas and sharing a lot of interesting details. We were fortunate to get to meet two brilliant artists who were working that day, Kim Beaton and Sonja Howard. Loved getting to watch them work and hear a bit about what they’ve been creating. We wrapped up the tour in the tempting gift shop, where I spent some time gazing at some of Sonja’s fantastic creations before it was time to head back to our pick-up point. The wonderful Derek ended up suggesting a great place on Cuba Street for lunch (Floriditas) and dropping us off near its doorstep, instead! Fast-forward to the next morning when I realized how heavily I was regretting not adopting one of Sonja’s floofy creatures. Hopped on transportation back out there and walked through the door, with Derek actually greeting me by name, as if it were a completely a natural and expected occurrence for me to return the very next day, with Brandon nodding understandingly as I babbled something about not being about to stop thinking about Sonja’s creatures and regretting not leaving with one. So glad to have rectified that! Ultimately we had really memorable and meaningful visits to Wētā Workshop!
