We did the Whitsunday Crocodile Safari while staying at Mirage Whitsundays and had a really good day. This is a relaxed, well-run experience rather than a high-octane wildlife chase. The boat trip along the Proserpine River is calm and scenic, and Steve, our guide, was excellent. Knowledgeable, entertaining, and full of stories about crocs, tides and river life. We spotted a smaller croc early on and then the main event, a 4.5-metre male called Gus, stretched out on the bank with his mouth open, absolutely owning the place. Back at camp there was plenty going on. Bush turkeys scratching around like they owned the joint, loads of birdlife, and a green tree frog discovered living his best life in the loo. Lunch was delicious, steak, chicken, barramundi and salads, with gluten-free options handled well. A short land tour, with loads of birds, wallaby spotting, an education on tree life and flooding, billy tea, and a bit of bush history rounded it out nicely. If you’re after a respectful, informative croc experience with plenty of local character and a few unexpected wildlife moments, this is a great option.

The two-hour river trip is very interesting the guide told a lot about crocodiles. We saw a lot of small ones and a huge one going into the river right in front of us. On the relaxed day gate ride we hardly saw anything, but that's just nature

This experience was really well organised and good value. Of course always at the mercy of Mother Nature as to what end up seeing, but the guide commentary was continuous and excellent. The meals, snacks and facilities provided were top notch.

Stu had so much knowledge and delivered it with a sense of humor. When we found crocodiles he turned the boat so everyone had a chance for photos. Lunch and afternoon tea was well presented and delicious. Good to see the emphasis on hygiene. Toilets on site were clean. The afternoon trip was informative but didn't live up to the morning.

We really enjoyed this trip. Our guide Steve was extremely knowledgeable. The BBQ was great as well as the Billy Tea and Damper. Sadly the crocs weren’t coming out. We only managed to see 2, but that’s wildlife for you! Hoped to see some Walabies and snakes, without success - on another day perhaps.

The tour was fantastic! Stu was incredibly knowledgeable and made the whole experience engaging with detailed explanations about the area and its wildlife. It is important to remember that you are visiting natural habitats, these are wild rivers and forests, not a zoo, so animal sightings can vary. But when you do come across a 4-metre wild crocodile in its own territory, it is absolutely unforgettable. If you are expecting guaranteed close-ups, a zoo tour might suit you better, but nothing compares to witnessing these animals in the wild. Oh, and the food was amazing!
