Your experience is very unique because it is on a specifically designed whale watching boat. There will be only up to 13 guests aboard so there is plenty of room inside and out for everyone. Your experienced captain is a local resident with a great deal of knowledge of the wildlife and area, and lots of good stories to tell. Our tour length ensures that you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beauty of our area and the incredible wildlife. We’ve been sharing our part of the world with enthusiastic guests for over 25 years and would love to share it with you, too.

What To Expect
Hoonah
We will meet you at the Excursions Hub and transport you in our van to Hoonah (a 5-minute drive), where you will board the boat for your whale and wildlife tour. After returning to the harbor, you'll be met by the van and driven back to Icy Strait Point.

5.00Glacier Wind Charters is highly recommended by our group, A family run business with two smaller newer type boats which includes everything for a great cruise excursion. Their boats are specially designed for visibility and viewing. We followed their easy & detailed directions from the ship to the meeting location, meeting up with Theresa (Mom), for the drive to Honnah where we met, Captain Casey (Son), for our adventure. Our group of 14 boarded a new, clean, comfortable boat with plenty of space for seating, visibility and moving around the boat. Hot Chocolate was served on the boat. Casey shared his great background knowledge on the wildlife and whales along with chasing the whales to make sure everyone had a sighting. Our day was one of low activity, but all the Captains/Residents share their sightings to help everyone enjoy a good experience. It ended with, Shawn (Dad) driving us back just outside of the port for a local stop/shopping and a short walk along the boardwalk back to the ship. *Definitely preferred the small boat compared to the larger ones we saw on the water. * A great day full of memories and pictures of Sea Lions, Orcas and Killer whales. * They shared their binoculars, but recommend bringing your own. * Don’t hesitate book with Glacier Wind Charters, now!

5.00This is truly a family operated business. The couple is in the process of handing it over to their two sons who have been doing this for years! Email response was super swift. Kyle, our guide, was very informative. He works get people near wildlife without bothering them. He was able to get us close to see Orcas. One male orca came about 20 feet from our boat as we were floating there, looking. It was amazing! We saw lots of humpback whales, sea otters, porpoises, and sea lions. This is a highly recommended tour. We'd definitely do this again! Thanks for the great time!! Well worth it.

5.00We had a fantastic time on our trip with Glacier Wind Charters. This is an exceptionally well run family business, and we feel very fortunate to have met Shawn & Teresa and their son Casey. The boat was designed perfectly for a smaller group, with excellent visibility. With Shawn & Casey’s background and knowledge, we learned a great deal about whales and their behaviors. Casey also dropped a microphone in the water, and we were able to listen to the Humpback’s as they were bubble feeding. We saw Orca’s as well, which was a bonus! If you are looking for an exceptional experience with a tour operated by wonderful people with first-rate boats, Glacier Wind is the one!

5.00This was an amazing experience. I booked this as an excursion during our Alaskan cruise. We loved being with a small group vs a big boat jammed with people. Shawn and Casey were great to get us close to the whales just by watching the water and listening for the whales “talk”. We got to see a pod bubble feeding right out the back of the boat. This is a family run business that takes pride in what they do. I would highly recommend them.

5.00What an amazing excursion! We were picked up on time with great directions. A wonderful family owned and operated company that gave 9 of us a wonderful experience. The captain was so knowledgeable and informative as well as his helper. We saw 9 whales in a bubble formation in their brand new boat!! HIGHLY recommend this company.

5.00Our family of 4 had an amazing time on this tour! Our captain, Kyle, was great! Gave great information about where we were going and what we were doing and the surrounding area. The small boat experience was definitely the way to go. Some of the other tours we saw had upwards of 50 people on the boat. Too many! Also, the boat we were on was brand new and really nice. I know every experience would be different but we were blessed enough to catch bubble feeding, pods of humpbacks, including a full breach and a pod of killer whales!! Not too mention all of the other wildlife we saw! It could not have been better!!

5.00I had the most EPIC adventure with Glacier Wind Charters! My friends and I were fortunate enough to experience what we were told is a rare occurrence and in that rare occurrence we got to see quite a few feedings which included about 7 or 8 whales at the same time, many partial breaches, lots of tail shots taken, and the most epic full body breach! Oh and let’s not forget the bear sitings! To say that my first trip to Alaska was EPIC is an understatement! Thank you Glacier Wind Charters! I have memories that will last a lifetime!

5.00Whale and wildlife excursion This tour was the highlight of our cruise. A small group 10-12 people. A clean new boat that was very comfortable. It is a family business that live local and are very knowledgeable. From pick up to disbarment it was smooth and very organized. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were very fortunate to see a Mother Bear with 2 Cubs playing on the shore, Humpback Whales Bottle-net feeding, Eagles and Sea Lions. Price was very reasonable.

5.00Wow!! Casey knew exactly where to see whales and more! It was an amazing time sailing with him to view humpback whales. We saw many whales. He was patient and let us take it all in. He also took us to view seals, a bear, and an otter & her baby! Great day in the Alaskan waters.

5.00Wonderful experience. Perfect size boat with plenty of viewing room for all guests. Very knowledgeable crew (all family). Followed a pod of whales and saw bubble feeding at least three times. Sea lions, porpoises eagles all sighted. Icing on the cake were two brown bears roaming the shore lion. A magical experience. Glacier Winds a must if you’re in Icy Strait Point. Thank you.
