What To Expect
Take home a cool souvenir from Albania with this 2-3 hour wood crafting class in Gjirokaster. Learn how to make small wood works like small wooden signs with text or drawings. Make everything you want from what mentioned above and take it home as a souvenir or a gift for your loved ones. After meeting your host in Cerciz Topulli square we head toward Master Nurce Workshop. (3 min walk) First you will become familiar with the wood and types of it and get some general information. After choosing what you will create, you will design it first on a white paper and after that you will start carving always under the surveillance of master Nurce. While working, you can enjoy some refreshments. Congratulations on the piece of art you made yourself. You enjoy more the things you create yourself!

2.00We had a nice experience beforehand during the wood class. Thanks to the wood master and translator. But we do want to pass on our honest experience to others. The wood workshop is not as described on the website. The class does not last 3 hours but 1.5 hours. This is because the description on the website (sketching, learning technique, completing a final project) was not followed. We were not allowed to choose which object we wanted to make, but were given a small wooden block. We were under the impression that this was for practice, but this turned out to be our final project. After 1.5 hours the atmosphere became a bit uncomfortable and we asked if it was over, which turned out to be the case. The website states that drinks are included, we did not see any drinks. During the workshop we did not dare to say or ask anything about this because it took us all by surprise, as the workshop was a gift from colleagues. The next day we immediately contacted Experience Gjirokaster, unfortunately they blamed us all! We should have asked for drinks, the workshop could have been shorter depending on the number of participants and interest and they did not give anything back about the structure and the non-existent final work. That is why we feel compelled to post an honest review. The workshop is a fun experience but absolutely not worth the money!!!!

5.00This was such an incredible experience and one of the highlights of my time in Albania! The instructor and translator were both kind and helpful and we had great conversations in addition to the woodworking being fun. I felt like I learned a lot about Albania through this experience.

5.00Vickor was a great and patient teacher and it was refreshing to see his passion for woodcarving and Gjirokaster show through his work. Experience Gjirokaster were also fantastic at translating and providing more information about the history of Gjirokaster. We would 100% recommend this experience.

5.00We can’t recommend this experience highly enough! Viktor the mast wood worker was awesome. Vikki our guide super knowledgeable and friendly. Creating a keepsake - we did coasters and large picture frame using the old carving techniques while sipping wine was a blast and unique way to appreciate the history of Gjirokaster. Fun for all ages from 6 to 96! Well worth the time. Just do it, you won’t regret it.

5.00We had an amazing time with Experience Gjirokastra, and really really recommend it! The wood carving workshop was a unique moment with our amazingly talented host Viktor. After doing some beautiful carvings, showing us how to try to do it, he showed himself to be very knowledgeble about all things Gjirokastra when visiting an amazing old town house. Afterwards we went with Eni and the rest of the Experience Gjirokastra crew to a folk festival nearby, such a great time with very nice and fun people. Really recommend Experience Gjirokastra, the Wood Crafting Experience, and visiting Gjirokastra itself!
