Xochimilco is a unique ecological reserve, renowned for its natural wealth, historical legacy and deep cultural roots. In its waters sailed and worked the ancient Mexica peoples, developing an ingenious agricultural system.
Experience Xochimilco from another perspective: aboard a traditional boat (cayuco), guided by a local person who will take you through the Xochimilco canals at dawn. Enjoy the scenery as the sun rises, watch birds and other native species. To close the tour, taste an organic breakfast harvested in the same region.

What To Expect

We pick you up directly from your hotel or accommodation in Mexico City. The pick up takes place at 5 am in your accommodation, this way we ensure to see the beautiful sunrise in Xochimilco
Parque Ecologico Xochimilco
Your experience begins with a dawn canoe ride through the canals of the Xochimilco Ecological Reserve. As you sail, you will see the sun rise behind the majestic Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl volcanoes, creating an unforgettable view. Then you will arrive at a chinampa, an ancestral agricultural system still in use. There you will enjoy an organic breakfast prepared with freshly harvested ingredients. While cooking, you will sip a traditional pot coffee and hear from your guide the history of Xochimilco and its ecological importance. To close, you can plant your own vegetables and we will return to sailing while the day completely illuminates this magical place.

5.00Xochimilco is such an amazingly beautiful place and I feel so lucky to have gone on this amazing tour. Marcos, our guide, shared so much information about the ecosystem and the history of the park, as well as about the Xochimilcas’ farming methods and how they have been adapted for modern practice on the farm we toured. I really can’t stop thinking and telling my friends about everything I learned. Seeing Xochimilco at sunrise and then again in daylight was lovely. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and shared with pleasant company. If you are interested in learning more about the history of Mexico City, if you love nature, this tour is for you. I feel I should have paid more!

5.00Nothing like experiencing Xochilmilco at dawn, learning about the history and biodiversity, getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Marcos was a phenomenal guide and Eduardo as our driver. Yes you have to wake up early but well worth it!

5.00An enlightening, tranquil experience. Pick up was timely at 4:45 a.m. at our hotel in Roma Norte, with a timely arrival of 5:25 a.m. at the launch site in Xochimilco. It was surreal to see the scenery blanketed in fog and morning dew — as we made our way down the channels to where we would eventually have pretty salad with warm maiz bread — transform to brilliant colors upon sunrise. The guide (Marco) was knowledgeable and personable. Our driver, Eduardo, was a delight. He loves classic rock, as much as my husband. So we listened to Police, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, the Stones, etc. on the way to and from Xochimilco. He also knew all kinds of historical and cultural facts, providing smart commentary during the drive. Some tips: • In late February, it was chilly at the launch site and on the water. They provided blankets, but dress for what felt like the high 30s (Fahrenheit). • If you booked through Trip Advisor, expect a communication the evening before via the app for the name of your driver, vehicle info, and time of pickup. We screwed up our time, thinking 5:30 a.m. was the hotel pickup time and didn’t think to check for a communication the day before for the actual pickup time.

5.00Xochimilco is a gem. Our driver Eduardo confirmed the trip with us the night before and picked us up at our hotel in Reforma. He is very friendly and speaks perfect English. The breakfast served before kayaking was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed a great workout and the amazing natural beauty. The Island of Dolls was a spooky surprise. Highly recommended. 🥰

5.00Terrific experience! Absolutely loved getting to watch the sunrise over the farm. Marcos was an expert and knew so many fascinating facts about the area, the wildlife, and the history. They provided blankets which were clutch because we didn’t realize how cold it would be at sunrise—definitely pack extra layers! But we had an absolute blast. Delicious food, fun games, and gorgeous scenery. The birdwatching was incredible—so many native species! The pickup from our hotel was seamless and the whole team was amazingly communicative throughout. Highly recommend!

5.00This was a great experience. The sunset was beautiful and getting a glimpse into the local ecosystem was amazing. The breakfast was delicious (best cherry tomatoes I've ever had!). The canoe ride was very serene and Marcus was very knowledgeable. Our driver was prompt, professional, and friendly. The whole operations strives for sustainability and conservation. It was very cool to see that they are also working on axolotl conservation!

5.00This was one of our favorite experiences in Mexico City. Rise early to get to the Xochimilco canals to see wildlife, watch the sun come up, and enjoy a meal & hot coffee afterwards. The scenery is stunning. Wear layers. Plan to get wet from paddling. There are double & single kayaks. Bring gloves & a change of clothes. It’s worth the effort to see CDMX from a different angle. Our tour was completely in Spanish so be ready to exercise your listening & speaker skills or follow the crowd.

The driver was great, the canoe drive was like two totally different experiences, one before dawn, one in full daylight, and super informative, conducted by a biologist specializing in birds. The coffee and breakfast as dawn broke over the mountains was amazing. Can't recommend highly enough!

5.00Really nice sunrise kayak for about 2 hours, then back for breakfast. Pickup around 4am, then meet with the group at Xochimilco to be taken to pick up canoes. Wrap up warm as it is very cold, and you’ll get splashed so think about what you wear. The kayaking tour is virtually all Spanish speaking although this was not too much of an issue
