Yala National Park (යාල) is the second-largest and most visited national park in Sri Lanka, located along the coastline of the Indian Ocean. The park is home to 44 species of mammals, including the Sri Lankan Elephant, and boasts one of the highest leopard densities in the world. Block I of Yala is particularly famous for its leopards, with many individuals roaming the area. The park’s elephant herd consists of approximately 100–150 individuals, and other iconic mammals include the Sri Lankan sloth bear, wild water buffalo, and leopard, all of which are considered threatened species. While water buffaloes are native to Sri Lanka, many populations contain genes from domestic or feral stock. Additionally, the elephant population in Yala fluctuates

We did two safari half days with Udayanga, and had the most wonderful trips. We saw so many different animals, including the elusive leopard on both outings, and many different birds that we would never have spotted ourselves. Udayanga was knowledgable, and very respectful and calm when approaching the animals, which is more than can be said for some of the other drivers who were chaotic and frantic, resulting in the animals being scared away. If you’re looking for a safari with a knowledgeable, friendly, respectful guide then you should absolutely book with Leopard Eye!

The safari in Yala Park was the highlight of our trip! The organization is impeccable: leaving on time, arriving at the gate in advance to take a seat and get inside first. Thanks to this we enjoyed nature without crowds and saw many birds, elephants, buffalo, deer and even a rare bear. But the main target, the leopard, has been resistant for a long time. Our guide Udayanga has shown incredible patience and professionalism. He was in constant contact with the other drivers and analysing the situation. And so, at the very end of the day, thanks to his speed and masterful driving, we were in the right place! The leopard walked literally a meter from our Jeep in all its glory! It was an unspeakable emotion. All this is a credit to our guide! The service is also up to scratch: the car always had water, refreshments and snacks, and the lunch prepared by the guide was delicious. If you want not just to drive, but to really see the inhabitants of the park - contact only this professional!

We had an excellent early-morning safari at Yala National Park with Udayang from Yala Leopard Eye Safari. He picked us up before dawn, giving us the best chance to experience the park at its most active and beautiful time. Udayang did his utmost to show us as much wildlife as possible, while also reminding us that sightings depend on nature and expectations should be managed. He was friendly, kind, attentive, and made sure all our requests were handled smoothly. A truly memorable moment occurred at the park entrance when an elephant approached and searched inside our vehicle. Although initially intimidating, Udayang handled the situation calmly and professionally, clearly explaining how to respond and ensuring our safety throughout. In hindsight, it became a unique, fun, and unforgettable experience. His well-maintained Toyota Hilux was perfect for the rough terrain. Udayang is a highly professional and experienced guide, and we highly recommend him for a safe, exciting, and memorable Yala safari.

Safari was amazing!!! We spotted two leopards, bunch of elephants (including baby elephants) buffalos, deers, monkeys and peacocks. Our driver drove alone to avoid crowds and always secured best spot for us to observe animals! He was punctual, answered our questions and adjusted the trip to us. Recommend booking a safari with this company! BTW it was 2x cheaper than offer from the hotel we stayed at.

Our private tour to Yala with Udayanga was outstanding. He picked us up promptly and took us to the National Park, the zone visited had to be modified due to the recent devastating floods, however he managed to provide us with a full day experience. We saw lots of wildlife including close encounters with elephants. Our experience was phenomenal.

We booked the full day safari tour and it was so nice. Our tour guide picked us up on time from our hotel and we head directly to the Yala National park ticketing office. Everything was arranged nicely. We managed to see most of the wild life animals but I didn't manage to see the leopard as I fallen asleep while waiting for it to appear. It was a really nice experience to have so close contact with the wild animal. This is one of the tour you can't miss. Our tour guide did his best to find the leopard, but sometime it's all about luck too.

I had the best possible safari experience. Yala leopard eye safari is the best choice if you travel to Yala. My guide Udayanga managed in 4 hours to show me all the animals in the park, I could see leopard, elephants, rabbits, buffaloes, peacock, eagle, crocodile and up close. I couldn’t have been happier than with the choice of this company. Honestly, it’s really one of my best travel experiences and I did it solo and I didn’t see the time pass. Thank you again for making my day so amazing!

We literally played cat and mouse with the leopards … tracked and chased and prayed and eventually eureka! We had not 1 but 3 sightings. What a rush and it’s all thanks to our guide that’s really awesome.

Great day out the Gihan from Leopard Eye Safari. Got to spend 4 hrs before lunch in the park, broke for a snack and a paddle in the Indian Ocean from 13:00-14:00, then another 90 mins in the park. We opted not to share our 6 seater safari transport so had to pay $100 - had we shared the additional entry charge would have been less. However this offered us freedom to sit where we liked for shade, photos and filming. We were on a cruise ship visit and the going rate from a UK organiser on board was $85 pp for the max 6 people in a vehicle. We think the extra $30 we paid was great value. Gihan was superb - the drivers work as a group telling each other where the wildlife is. We saw: Mongers r Crocodiles Elephants and cubs, and a male alone in water lily’s Blue tail bee eater Green bee eater Black Face monkey’s White heron Grey heron Indian darter Domestic Buffalo Storks Red water lapwing Common Hoopoo Several herds of deer Eagle Owl Wild Buffalo Monitor Lizards The scenery flowers etc were stunning Loved our time in Sri Lanka and this concluded perfectly our visit here.
