Botahtaung Pagoda
The day starts at the Botahtuang Pagoda, a religious monument rumored to have been built 2,500 years ago and contain a hair of the Buddha. The stupa is highly revered in the Buddhist community and one of the city’s most important landmarks.
The Secretariat
For over 120 years, it has been the epicenter of countless changes in the political progression of Myanmar. It contains the Yangon Parliament House where Burma’s self-rule first began and the room where the assassination of General Aung San, the father of Modern Myanmar, and 7 cabinet members on 19th July 1947. After Independence in 1948, the new government of the Union of Burma used the complex to house various ministries and government departments. The Secretariat then became known as the “Minister’s Office.”

I'd originally booked the tour while the offices were closed but Htut Paing Soe urgently found a car and a guide within an hour. I was able to visit all of the main pagodas (Nga Htat Gyi, Chauk Htat Gyi, Shwedagon, Sule, and Botahtuang) as well as The Secretariat, Bogyoke Aung San Market, Kandawgyi Park, and Chaukhtatgyi Buddha. Everyone was very kind, generous, and they went above and beyond what was necessary in order to make sure I made the most of my short time in Yangon. I recommend Flymya 200%!

Karen and our driver were great. They showed us all around the city, and a couple of places that were on the agenda that we had already seen were swapped out for alternate destinations with no difficulty (even though I am sure it messed up their planned schedule) The knowledge of the sites and her expert photo taking both added a huge amount to what was already a great trip. Highly recommended.

It was our first day in Myanmar, after very long flights, so we didn't start till 10am, but Karen arrived early and sat with us till we had finished breakfast and were ready to launch forth. Her English is very good, as is her knowledge of her city and country and answered all the questions we threw at her. She managed where she took us according to the time of day, with a judicious meal and toilet break in the middle. She chose a good variety of things to show us, including being inside a covered market through the hottest part of the day. Our favourites were the partially restored Secretariat building which is quite magnificent and I would love to go back when the whole complex is restored. And, of course, the Shwedagon Pagoda, which she cleverly planned to get us to just as dusk was approaching - a truly magical time to see it. Well done, and thank you Karen.

Marks of 11 out of 10 for Karen, our brilliant tour guide. She picked us up from our hotel @ 10.00 am and kept us entertained & educated in equal measure for 11 straight hours. She knew exactly where to take us & at what time. She was so knowledgeable about the city that she loved and was very candid about what it it is like to live in Myanmar right now. Having a personal tour is so important in getting to really know a new city and Karen was the real star of the show.

Does not concern this commercial offer but by chance came into contact with local lady who speaks perfect English and has traveled with us a whole day through Yangon. Largely walking but also sharing with train accident taxi. Really perfect and bad for 40 USD for a full day. Transport costs which are very low are added to this. This guide works a lot as a self-employed person and if you want to use her services please send me a message so I can share contact details.

We had a great day!! Karen our guide was brilliant she knew what ever you asked and went as quickly or took time with you in points you were more interested in, nothing was too much trouble for her. We asked her to drop us off at a roof top bar so we could see the pagoda lit up in the evening and she called round her friends to get the best recommendations! Would recommend!

I had an absolutely amazing day with Karen! She did a fantastic job of explaining everything and showing me the city and culture! I definitely wouldn't have come to see some of these places on my own. Definitely recommend!

We'd booked a trip on a night before the tour so we were afraid the operator might not able to get it, but they did! very responsive and professional arrangement was made just beforehand. On the exploring day, we were greeted by Karen, a Myanmese local guide who brought us around town with a list of typical attractions that not so surprise but she did a great job with her knowledge with every detail we passed by from the temples to major residences. Great job and highly recommended!
