While winter may bring cold temperatures, snowy days and a resounding stillness to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, it is also undoubtedly one of the most exciting seasons to go on a wildlife safari.
Yellowstone in winter is an extreme, exclusive place. Of the 300 miles of road in the Park, only 50 miles are open to regular vehicles between the months of November to April. A private, full-day winter tour with Yellowstone Safari Co. focuses on this region, the spectacular Northern Range between Mammoth Hot Springs and Cooke City, Montana, where some of the best wildlife viewing in North American can be found.
The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is a region steeped in history and wildness, where nature thrives as it did prior to human settlement. On your safari you will have an opportunity to view hundreds, if not thousands, of large mammals and other wildlife, including herds of bison and elk, gray wolves, mule deer, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats and more.

Paradise Valley
Paradise Valley runs north-south, bordered on the north by the town of Livingston, MT and on the south by Gardiner, MT. The valley lies between the Gallatin Range to the west and the Absaroka Range to the east. It is also a major corridor of the Yellowstone River and is home to diverse flora and fauna as well as geological wonders. Our safari makes a stop here in search of wildlife. Your guide will educate you on the historical or geological significance of your stop.
Yellowstone River
The Yellowstone River originates in the Absaroka Range at the Continental Divide and flows north through Yellowstone National Park and Paradise Valley before heading east across the plains of Montana and eventually flowing into the Missouri River. It is a large-volume river, fed by several tributaries on its journey eastward. The river provides habitat for many species in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and is known for its excellent trout population. Our safari makes a stop here in search of wildlife. Your guide will educate you on the historical or geological significance of your stop.

An amazing day, we were collected and dropped back to our hotel in Bozeman. An early start but we had a solid 7 hours within the park. We had a small private party of 4 so it was really special and Our amazing guide Allen was so knowledgeable, friendly and really happy to show us as much as we could - we saw Bison, Wolves, Osprey, Ell, Deer, Bald eagles and best of all a momma bear and her 2 cubs ! A yummy lunch was provided, the vegetarian was delicious and we had snacks, water and refreshments as well and we had our own set of binoculars to use and Allen set up some scopes as well for even closer close ups. A fantastic day and definitely recommend 10/10🤩

The four of us had been looking forward to our tour for the better part of a year. Grant, our guide, delivered a magical day that exceeded even our wildest hopes. He had an uncanny ability to spot wildlife and his knowledge of everything Yellowstone greatly enhanced our experience. It was a special day none of us will ever forget.

Was a lovely experience to see Yellowstone in winter but as only one entry open we only saw mountains and animals. Still a great day out with a very knowledgeable host. Food was amazing and plentiful.

We had no idea what to expect but we hit the perfect storm as we saw almost every type of wildlife that we could think of that we wanted to see what the exception of one. That's a pretty good track record. Our guide was awesome and well informed. I highly recommend this trip. You are always going to have the chance that you won't see things so it was great that we had a perfect experience. I will say that the full day it was and I was very tired by the end but it was worth it.

Yellowstone Safari is the absolute BEST company to use when wanting to visit Yellowstone! If you only have a few days to visit their private guides are the way to go! This is part 1 of 2 reviews since we used their service/guide for 2 days and 2 unique experiences. Overall: Our group consisted of 7 people, ranging in age from 74 to 9! We had some medical things to navigate, along with keeping it active and fun for the 40 year olds and teenager. Our guide Grant was OUTSTANDING! He met everyone at their level!! The Wildlife: We saw bison, wolves, grizzly, black bear, elk, prong horn, mountain goat and we even saw a coyote kill a small uinta ground squirrel …it was AMAZING! Grant knows EVERYONE and they all share where the animals are and radio to one another so you can get to where they are and get the best animal sightings! Allergies/Bathroom Breaks/Medical: We have two with food allergies (one person has a gluten allergy and the other an egg allergy) CUSTOM breakfast and lunch items for these individuals, including the “best gluten free bread” they had ever had! Frequent bathroom breaks and they know where the “good bathrooms” are! No one was ever hungry, thirsty or “needing to go”. Grant went out of his way to make sure those with medical needs in our group were accommodated!

Our private tour to Yellowstone National Park was a fantastic experience. Our guide, Gabrielle, was absolutely the best and so knowledgeable. She made sure we were enjoying every aspect, gave us options for sightseeing, and navigated is through the park with ease. I would highly recommend this tour and ask for Gabby!

My 6 year old loves wolves and it was the one thing on our list that we were hoping to see. As soon as we drove into the park, we saw them! The day continued to get better with more and more animal sightings including the same wolves on the way out. We couldn't have asked for a better day or a better guide. Grant was very knowledgable and we learned so much about the park, its animals and history. Highly recommend!
