The Vibe: 5/5 The second you walk in, the atmosphere hits you. It’s dark, unsettling, and actually smells like pissy alleyways and burning wood. The lighting isn't just there to look cool; it genuinely builds the suspense until you’re looking over your shoulder. The Cast: 10/10 The actors are the heart of this place. The guy playing the Doctor was on another level—he popped up in a few different roles and his range was incredible. The humor is sharp, but they know when to dial up the dread. The Highlights: The Witch Section: This was the standout for me. The build-up is genuinely scary, and the way they play with the lights going on and off had everyone on edge. The Courtroom: Apparently, the worst crime you can commit in 1500s York is being from Derby. I got hauled up on trial for it, which was hilarious and a great way to get the crowd involved. The Pacing: Perfect. It never felt rushed, but there’s zero dead air. Because it’s so immersive, you never really lose the "illusion." The Verdict: 5/5 I’d recommend this to anyone, but with one caveat: you have to play along. If you’re going to be a stooge and stand there like a statue, you’re going to ruin the vibe for everyone else. Go in, get involved, and enjoy the chaos.

Really fun and engaging afternoon out. I went to London Dungeon years ago and this was so much better. Just the right balance of spooky and funny with great exhibits and wonderful acting. Would definitely recommend.

I am interested in history and found this very informative. The actors were absolutely amazing and made me jump on a few occasions. Well worth every penny.

My sister and I had a great time at the dungeons. It was scary and funny . The actors were brilliant. Well entertained . Worth every penny . We had done the mad Alice and the ghost bus too, which were both quite good but this was the best and good value

The actors were fabulous. It was scary at times, really funny at times, thoroughly entertaining! Every room different & engaging. Very well done. It took an hour to go through, my only criticism is it was quite a lot of money for a family for an hour.

A great experience. We have visited a few times but the last time was 2024. My 10 yr old grandson was a little disappointed as the posters outside said ‘all new shows’ but they were the same as our last visit. The wait to start is hampered by having to wait to have photos taken, and also wait for everyone else to have theirs taken, which adds another 20 minutes to the already 20 minutes we waited to get in, despite having pre paid tickets. Once you’re in, the shows and cast are great. If you’re not into audience participation (our adult son has high functioning autism) you can mention this at the front desk and you will be given a glow in the dark discreet sticker so the characters know not to choose you for parts of the show. Highly recommended but if you can look for deals as the tickets are not cheap.
